A properly applied choke can make someone unconscious in as little as 3-4 seconds when it is done perfectly. It is a weird experience when you hit a choke that clean and the other person goes out that fast, you have to be very good to make that happen. Like Jacare for example in his last fight, his choke was about 4 seconds and his opponent almost went out.
I am looking for the article where two guys were fucking around and ended up causing brain damage by accident, that choke was held for less than a minute if I remember correctly. |

I think the interesting part of Silva vs Weidman is that there is an unknown factor with Chris Weidman, an up and comer with an undefeated record and has looked great in all his fights. Going up against the GOAT but aging Anderson Silva.
It feels like going into this fight that anything could happen and I haven't felt that way about a title fight in a long while. |

As the fight gets closer I feel more and more confident that Silva is going to clown him. A few months ago I thought Weidman had a legit chance to win but his inexperience is going to be out on display in the bright lights.
Solid card, it'll be good to see Frankie Edgar win again. It's been a while. |

I think if you put money on Weidman and he comes up short you're going to headslap the shit out of yourself once hindsight reminds you you just bet against the greatest fighter of all time.
But it's really hard not to see Weidman's wrestling credentials (both outside and in MMA - most takedowns per round in the division etc) and his grappling credentials and think back to how effective Chael was against Anderson. I mean, sure, Chael popped for roids after the first fight but R1 of their rematch was all Chael too and he was clean then. And Weidman seems to be better than Chael in all other areas - especially mentally, which was a huge part of what lost Chael the second fight. So I have no idea, but one hell of an intriguing match-up. |

Weidman has one big win, against Munoz who I feel has always been a little overrated. But it was still a great performance. I look at Chris struggling a bit in a sloppy stand up brawl with Damian Maia and yes it was on short notice but it does not bode well. At the same time he deserves the title shot and I wouldn't be shocked if he pulled it off. Just very surprised.

Best argument I ever heard for Weidman winning is that he doesn't stand a chance to win based on everything we've seen. But as a young prospect that has gotten better, perhaps exponentially, with each and every fight, we can make an educated guess that after his Munoz fight he can reach a high enough point on his skill curve (or parabola) to beat Silva. Weidman can win via what we believe he can achieve, not on what he has achieved because I must agree beating Maia and Munoz is not championship material. I'm picking Weidman because of NY pride but also because I simply want to see Anderson lose. I don't care who does it but the King must die. Last edited by Astigos; 07-05-2013 at 09:47 PM. |
