Podcast app - Switching from Blackberry to Iphone/Ipad

Podcatcher app recommendations for iOS devices needed.

Hi forums. I've been a BB user since they were first sold. We're talking the pager like things that only did monochrome email. I've owned most every generation since then (none of the touch ones though). Work has always provided these and paid the bills. Thanks work.

Recently RIM put out a podcast app that has greatly simplified my life. I plug in my subscriptions, how many episodes I want to keep, etc. It will fetch them over 3G or wifi according to my settings and stores them all on a microSD card. I love not having to sync anything or copy anything over from my desktop.

My Seriosa just gave me an iPad and work just swiched me to an iPhone 4 - all at the same time. I know I can use the KATG app for KATG listening - but I listen to a lot of other podcasts from Marc Maron to serious high-nerd shit.

Any of you iphone gurus have good suggestions for an app that can handle everything on the iphone that the BB app does? I did some google searching and understand that there is (or was) a file size limitation for some downloads and there are lots to choose fom out there. I thought I'd ask here since this is place where people know iOS stuff and listen to podcasts. Paid apps OK if worth it.

Thanks in advance.

The only file size restriction is you can't download apps larger than 20 megs over 3g, you have to use wifi, which is good since your "Unlimited" AT&T plan isactually the opposite of unlimited.

You can either use itunes or I think VLC may have an iphone app.

The sow apps I use, especially if you're into geeky podcasts is the Twit app for both the phone and the ipad, (they are different).

Enjoy the Apple Cider, it really is delicious.

Thanks Grapist. I have the VLC player on the iPad but I think it is just a player without any podcast RSS management tools.

I wondering which apps will let me provide RSS feeds for podcasts, watch for changes and fetch new podcasts. My hope is to avoid ever needing to sync with iTunes for anything other than backup.

I do listen to a bunch of TWIT casts (TWIT, FLOSS weekly, TWIG, TWICH, and WW) so I will definitely check out both apps.

I use CastRoller to manage my feeds, and then RSS Player to pull them to my iphone.

do you sync at home so infrequently that iTunes wont work for you? Try the built in before reaching out I say.

Da_ticklah - that is correct. Itunes would be fine if I had one computer that I used and was near every day. I travel quite a bit for work and work on lots of remote desktop scenarios and I haven't had to plug a device in to a computer to sync it for any reason for a while.

I did figure out that I can find and download single episodes in the mobile itunes on the device - but there are no subscription options there.

I'm trying out Podcaster (Formerly RSS Player) on Picard's reccomendation - but according to their blog they are facing being regulated out of existence by Apple's increasingly restrictive terms for app developers. I hope that does not come to pass as I looked at a few others and this one looks great. Also only 99 cents.

CastRoller is also awesome. I love that they have on the front of their channel pages a KATG Fans listing. I hope they somehow stay in business too, as I have yet to understand how they make money off of this service.

Aces babillion, Picard.

I know it doesn't help you, but if you ever switch back to the blackberry or to an Android phone, try Podtrapper. It does everything you want it to and more.

This. Podtrapper took thinking out of podcast gathering, organizing, deleting etc. It's cheaper now than when I got it too. Didn't know android had an iteration, maybe time to go android. Nah.

I sync maybe once every 2 months. There just isn't a need for it.

Ya, they were kicked out of the store at one point already. But once you have it you're pretty safe in keeping it even if they crack down.

They don't, but it isn't a whole lot to operate either.
