Hey, I tried it. Once. Sitting on a couch for 6 hours accomplishing absolutely nothing really rubbed me the wrong way.

Yeah, but it's a fun 6 hours. I wouldn't smoke pot every day. I only do it about 2 or 3 times a year if it finds me. It's a fun time around the right people for me, especially if I'm with some goofball friends. I doubt I could smoke it all day every day like sone people though, I do need to function at some point.

Wasn't fun for me. I was paranoid and all the while I knew I had more important shit I should have been doing.

Sounds to me like you were smoking some Indica (or just shitty weed). A nice Sativa strain produces a lighter head like high without the tired full body high that Indicas are known to produce.

How irresponsible of you. Do you get drunk as fuck when you're supposed to do important shit too?

This logic is one of the reasons homebrewing for personal use doesn't get taxed. If it's for personal use, it doesn't need to be regulated and it doesn't ever enter into the commerce stream on any real scale. You can grow and smoke your own tobacco, too. Home gardens aren't messed with by the FDA under the same theory.

Now, we could argue all day ... and maybe we will .... about whether taxing these things at all makes any sense. Presumably, however, the same sort of system would get applied to legalized sensi. Homegrown for personal consumption would be one thing, retail sales would probably be another matter entirely.

Personally, I think that if you believe pot (or alcohol or tobacco) should be legal then it's worth asking why in the world the government should have anything to do with them at all.
Now if we could just get that homegrown logic applied to hard liquor, you know - ok to distill for personal consumption without having to prove that you denature it for fuel - and wouldn't consider actually drinking it.

Yes sad unimaginative boy, I expect the government not to be in the business of "making money" as you so eloquently put it. I fully expect them to be in the business of protecting borders and building roads and not much else. The fact that so many people can't even imagine something different than paying a separate class of people to accomplish nothing is one of the most depressing things I've ever experienced.

Also, I don't know if you are aware of this, but for those of you who are sooooo cool with paying taxes, you can send in as much extra money as you like to your local, state, or federal government. They'll take it. (They don't actually say thank you or send the appropriate thank you note, but what can you expect?)

1. just boarders and roads? not schools, police and fire departments, public transportation, water and sewage, libaries, museums, convention centers, enviromental conservation, fish hatcheris, correction centers, municapalities, public defendants, national and state parks, postal service, and maybe the fda ? just boarders and roads huh.

2. i'm already soooo cool that i pay income tax, and i'm sooo extra cool that i pay $10 a day on cigarette sales tax. the tax on weed is just an incentive for state gov't to decrimanili.e it. cali taxing it will help them the fuck out.

3. grass has become so expensive in the last 10 years because of the risk that comes with growing or transporting large quanities. many people in the US subsidi.es their income by growing it.

4. do you know what canadas #1 export is, you got it their chemy ass beastiers, weed, grass, marijuana. why should they make the money when we can grow it better.

5. from 1992 untill the year 2000 weed by the ounce was worth more then gold, and weed turns to ash.

I guess the money to clear out the snow and rescue the people trapped in that pile up on the turnpike I witnessed this morning could just come from nowhere then. I don't get why people are so up in arms over taxes all of a sudden. It used to be people would complain against higher taxes, that I understand. But to rally against taxes in general makes no sense.

Libertarian belief that the government is only for defense is as old as this country. A lot of people (maybe not a lot but a few) believe that people should create local infrastructure in the form of private businesses or very localized government in order to handle the few things they can't take care of entirely on their own.

Not a belief system I subscribe to, but not anything new.
