me dos

I have been wanting to quit for a while, but I feel the cards are stacked against me for a variety of reasons. One that isn't; smokes are up to $10+ a pack right now in NYC..... I'm down to a half pack a day or less, which is a big accomplishment, but I just want to follow through. I'm 31, been smoking since I was 13. 18 years is a mofo if you were really committed. Just sayin'. I'm trying people. All the haters can blow me. Personally.

tried quitting many times over my 10-yr pack-a-day habit. finally, had enough of the stinking shit and on my 30th birthday said FUCK THIS. That was almost 3 yrs ago. My best friend and his wife smoke. Up until my wife got pregnant 7 mos ago she still smoked. At first it was really hard to be around them while they were smoking, now it's not so bad. Thank goodness it stinks so bad- that really helps.

i still want a cigarette almost every time I'm driving or talking on my cell phone, but it's just a passing compulsion.

Anyone can quit- it just seems to me to be a matter of finding the right motivation.

BUT, smokers are FUCKING RETARDED. Knowing what you know, paying what you do, you're fucking retarded. Not to say our world isn't made up mostly of functioning retards...

I really did manage to quit with patches after almost 15 years of smoking and almost 1.5 packs a day during the last couple of years. Never thought it would help, but it did and once I finished the 6-week patch thing, I didn't even have cravings anymore. It was extremely easy! That was 8 months ago and this time it's forever, hopefully. Oh, and Alan Carr's book did nothing for me...kind of a brainwash thing that simply didn't work for me.

This is the way I would recommend.

I quit but I use Skoal several times per day. Skoal is a lot cheaper and less devistating to your health, but like it says on the can: not a safe alternative. I tried Snus but it doesn't give as satisfying a dose of nic as traditional snuff.

When I quit smoking the only thing that worked well was replacement. First I used patches but as soon as I stopped using the absurdly expensive patches the craving would return. Patch-induced nightmares are terrible too.

Snuff gives you replacement without the drug side effects of the patches. It is better than smoking and you won't find yourself using it nearly as much as smoking. It isn't socially acceptable around or for women, but it works well as an occasional satisfying nicotine dose.

After several years of using a can every three days, I don't have any oral problems from it, but I am a pretty frequent brusher.
If you fail at cold turkey try this one.

Disclaimer: I've never been hooked on smoking/tobacco. I've dipped from time to time because it helps me stay awake during long drives. I also enjoy a good cigar from time to time.

I've been doing the patch for almost a week now. It's easy in the daytime, but...it's damned near impossible to drink without smoking. In fact, it IS impossible.

And I like to drink a lot. But I'm tryin'. Fuck health, I'm just tired of spending money on 2 packs a day. Woooooo!

I tried the whole "I'll only smoke when I drink" routine but then I just drank more. Then last fall I had a brain hemorrhage and my neurosurgeon was like "yeah you're dumb if you keep smoking" and I was like "ok dude" and I quit cold turkey in the hospital and never started up again. I still have one every couple of weeks though. They're just so damn good.
