I can't believe that there wasn't something in his contract specifically banning him from riding a motorcycle.
British football [soccer] players are certainly contractually banned from riding motorbikes, as well as various other "dangerous" activities (such as skiing and rock-climbing). How much do the Steelers pay this guy? $1m, $2m a year? That'd be enough to keep me off a bike for a few years. I get the impression this guy's just a bit fuckin' stupid, but maybe he'll learn a lesson now. |

The NFL's standard player contract prohibits any activity involving "significant risk of personal injury" -- outside of playing football.
Many teams further specify motorcycle use, and some players have had their signing bonus revoked for such behavior. While Pittsburgh's contract does not explicitly have a motorcycle clause, their warning could be determined as invoking that standard clause. His signing bonus was $9 million dollars. They may also refrain from paying him his contract amount this year for not playing. His contract is a base of $230,000 plus performance incentives, which earned him about $4 million last year. |
