Holy shit, that's still going? I remember Erik Larsen used to joke that he was gonna do 301 issues and then stop, just to piss off Dave Sim by doing one issue more. Maybe he's actually gonna pull it off.

Yeah, it's somewhere between 150 and 200 right now.
He's the only Image guy who's kept it going from day 1.
Fun stuff, too. And constantly changing stories with characters that have been aging in real time.

I like everything by Ed Brubaker as well, like his Daredevil run and especially his Iron Fist run, for reals.

The only book I read every month and not in trade form is Savage Dragon, ever since it started in the early '90's.

Also I'm a big fan of Alex Robinson. Box Office Poison and such.

And other things.
Ed Brubaker's like Greg Rucka - I don't necessarily seek him out but if his name's on a book, I know it's going to be good. The fact that they worked together and on Batman books makes me happy.

I like Savage Dragon (like what it is more) but Erik Larson is kind of an asshole.

What makes you say that? I've never met him but he always seems like a reasonable, good dude in his letter columns. (That's the best way to get to know people, yes? Read what they say to their fans once a month or so?)

I feel like you do about Rucka (always enjoy it enough, but ultimately don't feel like it's life-changing), but I seek Brubaker out. Sleeper, Criminal, Gotham Central, Iron Fist, Daredevil, it's all really awesome shit that I'm happy to seek out.

This kind of thing. Seems nice to his fans, though.

Did you read Rucka's Batwoman? Wow. God, you just reminded me how great Sleeper was, I may have to grab it off my shelf. I'll be honest, I never could get into Daredevil as a character. Iron Fist is fucking awesome though, Power Man too. Even with his tiara, especially with his tiara.

Regarding that Larsen quote, I followed the links and it seems like that it's actually a Dave Sim quote. And certainly, the fact that he's friends with Sim/agreeing with Sim about the unfairness of the case could be viewed as asshole-ish. But I think it's also fair to point out that Sim seems to be the one spewing the misogyny (unless I missed some of it), and Larsen's agreement with him seems more directed at the creative unfairness of the decision. (Which seems justified, given that I've only read this side of the story and was not in court to be wowed by Gaiman's manly charms.)

Do we agree that it's more jerky to say "women are bad jurors" than to not argue with a known misogynist who's saying "women are bad jurors"? (When you agree with the larger point he's making?)

Point is, you can't make me stop liking Savage Dragon!

PS It IS weird to have an all-female jury, is it not?
PPS Women make fine jurors. (Especially fine women. Am I sexist, ladies?)

PPPS And yes, Sleeper is awesome. And about DD vs. IF, I always felt the opposite. Iron Fist seemed like a weirdo. One magic fist? And I liked Daredevil but never really read him until recently, when Bendis took over. I just really read for story now, and Bendis had a cool run, and when Brubaker took over, it was really sweet. (And as it turned out, I was wrong about Iron Fist also. Just like you're wrong to not read Brubaker's Daredevil. Good, we made up.)

PPPPS Women are equal to men!

That's on me for not looking closer. It's less assholeish, which is something. It being Dave Sim wouldn't surprise me. I think it's ok to find someone's views repellent but enjoy their work, Sim is a clear example of that. Cerebus was something special and even glamourpuss - where you can see his misogyny in full effect - is a fantastic study of different artists and their styles. Hateful as his outlook may be, he's unquestionably skilled.

I got to meet Neil Gaiman once and he is incredibly charming, I'm fairly sure he seduced both me and my girlfriend at the same time. Maybe if Gaiman seduced McFarlane everyone could get along?

I feel like Iron Fist is essentially a fun Batman who watched lots of Kung Fu movies, gained a super power and actually hung out with a black guy occasionally. Makes sense that I like him.

I may have to pick up Brubaker's run. I never really liked Captain America (outside of how they used him in events like The Infinity Gauntlet) but his run on the book made the character 'click' for me. More emphasis on the man and how he is affected by his legacy. I mean Brubaker managed to resurrect the character who always had to stay dead in a medium where no-one does and made it feel strong, powerful and not cheap.

So I'll like Daredevil, you'll like Iron Fist and we won't mention how much you hate women.

I got hired at my shop because they needed an indie comics nerd, since the main manager handled all the superhero stuff. As such, it still weirds me out that guys like Ed Brubaker and Paul Pope do mainstream comics now. I realize it's been ten years, but still, the shock! I mean, Brian Michael Bendis used to draw stuff! Oh, I'm becoming so old...

The first 20 minutes were really slow, but once the movie got it going it was incredible. I've never read the comics, nor do I plan to, but I loved this movie. It's perfectly understandable why the movie has bombed (Cera has worn out his nerd welcome, the awful tagline, the cartoonish look), but I have a feeling this is the kind of movie that will much better on DVD/Blu-Ray.
