So I am moving to Los Angeles

KATGers in the LA area, any suggestions for areas to live? I will be working out by Arcadia, but want to live somewhat closer to the action...how is Los Feliz?

Also I will basically know no one there and would love to get together with fellow fans for drinks once i get there...i will be there the first week of June...

thanks!

Los Filez is pretty trendy, but one thing about LA is that, unlike almost every other major city in the world, people from LA will avoid the city center like a plague. They only go there if they really really have to, or begrudgingly if they work there. Business owners are trying to make the city sexy again, but it's still basically abandoned after 5 p.m. and on weekends.

Every suburb has it's own scene, and the people that live there mostly attend their local stuff. If you want to be around the most possible cool stuff, I recommend South Pasadena. Even though you're going against traffic, Los Filez to Arcadia is going to get to be a really annoying commute. South Pas is close to the city if you want to go to a play or a concert (basically the only reason to go), it's not half in the stifling heat and dry dead desert of the valley, it actually gets cool breezes. A lot of neighborhoods in South Pas are walking distance from restaurants, entertainment, etc. And, since it was trendy in the 90's, but fell out of favor, you get nice apartments with generally lower rent.

Yeah, that's a pretty chill area, it was extremely trendy to live there a few years back. Now there's a Gelson's up the street, which is cool, and I think the park still has a farmers market every week. There's a few good restaurants within walking distance, and a million more a short drive away. Also, it's freeway adjacent.

I recommend that as soon as you can, you pop over to Lake for Pie and Burger (Pie 'n Burger - Pasadena - Pasadena, CA). The yelp crowd doesn't think it's anything special, and it sure doesn't look like much, but any Pasadena local will tell you it's a neighborhood staple.

Honestly, I recommended South Pas because of the commute, and because of the slightly cooler weather, but I grew up in Pasadena, and I happen to think it's the best damn city on the entire planet. The only thing wrong with it is that it's so far from the beach. Almost anything you need, you can get in Pasadena high-end, low-end, industrial, natural, mainstream or obscure. It's awesome.

So... when are you coming to a so-cal meet up?

Pasadena was pretty great, always one of my favorite places in Southern California. If you want to have a heart attack due to eating I reccomend THE HAT.
