Two things that annoy me about alot of podcasts

1. When the intro music is more than thirty seconds. I have heard podcasts go past the four minute mark.

2. When someone says "what the fuck do you want? It's free." In regards to the audio quality. That doesnt mean you should record in a wind tunnel or on your cell phone.

I'm adding one:

3. Annoying people that get so big it goes to their heads and they stop putting out shows regularly and stop being funny when they do one.

4. Too many Ads.

The Bruce Williams podcast is cool, he brings up interesting topics, but it's like actually listening to the show while it's on the air. Which is not what I want.

Too many ads forced me to stop listening.

Which one is that directed to?

I've only listen to other podcasts a few times because they always seem so awful. My chief complaint is that most podcasters don't seem to have anything of any worth to say.

I've listened to KarateCast a couple of times. The worst was an episode on self-defence and the law. It was half an hour or so of two guys talking utter bollocks about a subject that they don't know anything about. They really didn't know what the law was in their own state, nevermind anybody elses. The least they could have done was a bit of research. On another episode, somebody phoned one of their cell phones during a recording so they tired to put him on the air by holding the phone up to the mic. You can imagine how well that went.

for my podcast, i actually this past episode decided to take all music out. when we took breaks, i would play songs and just leave it on the subscription podcast. feedback and my own habit from listening to other podcasts told me that people just fast forward over the music.
we have behringer mics and a soundboard and pop screens, and yet my cohost still finds a way to make it sound shitty sometimes by not talking INTO THE MIC makes my editing a lot longer and tedious.

as far as not doing shows regularly, sometimes that's just a fact of life that you have to miss a week or two weeks... for me, i had to move and go to a wedding one week, and so on... by the time i had a chance, about a month rolled by between shows. doing so, though, i realize i'm alienating my regular listeners but there's nothing i can do about it. if they like it, they'll find their way back. i do it just as much for me than for them. it's my creative outlet.

i look forward to more input on this thread, it could actually help podcasters like myself learn something and get better.

I say "it's free, what do you want?" Because it is free! I got the equipment I got, and unless some motherfucker wants to fund my road to superior audio quality, they can shut their damn mouth.

But one thing that super-bothers me in podcasting is when it sounds too much like radio, like when they have radio-fake voices, and tell obviously scripted jokes, or if they have too many commercials, I loose interest. The reason I like podcasting is because it isn't radio.

Another thing that bothers me is the same commercial over and over for months. Especially if it's crappy, or sounds like a commercial that would be on the radio. Something about the tone of commercial radio really annoys me.

it really depends on what you want to do with your show. there's a podcast i listen to on and off, Lunatic Radio, that's trying to get to Sirius/XM. so they're actively trying to get that "radio" sound. for me, i have no aspiration to ever get that far, so we just get stoned and blab for 2 hours. i think there's a niche market out there that wants to hear comparisons between "Babe:Pig in the city" and "Metropolis"

I listened to a podcast recently that had five solid minutes of admin crap before the actual podcast started, announcements and that crap should go at the end.
