I have lived in lots of different parts of South East London and most of it is absolutely fine. Like all major cities in the world, there are rough parts of town. They are very easy to spot when there but walking anywhere at night, it's important to keep your wits about you.

Bebe's list is good. I would add Churchill's Cabinet War Room, if you have any interest in history. Also take the tube to Notting Hill and spend half a day wandering around.

My wife also liked Covent Garden, near the Theatre District.

Probably the most fun for us was getting on the tube, picking a random train and stop, and seeing what was there when we got off. We met some great people by going into the first pub or restaurant we spotted.

Aah - you're absolutely right - sorry about that!

Also, Gordon's bar on Vilier St - just outside Charing Cross - is beautiful in the summer. Also, Gabriel's Wharf on the south bank is a fantastic place

Yes, I did that, super fun ... start with the idea that you can't get lost if you don't have a destination, and then have a glorious adventure

awesome, thanks for all the ideas guys! I'm gonna start checking some of these places out tonight. I like the idea of getting off at random tube stops and checking stuff out too, sounds like a fun way to explore.

Well, if you like drinking, there is always the Circle Line pub crawl!

If you're getting off at random tube stops do it in zone 1. There's not really anything outside of there.

Another cool place is the London Dungeons. SO much fun!!!

If you're on the circle line, make sure you stop off at Notting Hill. The Prince Albert, right by the tube is pretty good, as is the Windsor Castle 5 mins walk away. Oh, and I quite like the Churchill round the corner.
