I can't say what the first one I picked out for myself was. I could still take you to where the record store was located in the local mall. They always had a display of top 20 singles on 45s. I remember really liking a copy of "Still Rock and Roll to Me", which was a single in 1980 (when I was only 7). That might have been the first one.

I think pretty much every kid had one of those orange fisher price suitcase record players in their room (I know I did and several friends did too). I never saw a kid with an 8-track payer

My allowance (for completing chore list) was paid in pop bottles that I would return to a store four blocks away with one of those red wagons. All of my cash went to 45s, 2600 cartridges, and comic books (I never missed MAD or Car-toons).
I had the same one.

I remember being very young (4-5?) and having one of those baby record players and having a chipmunks album that I loved to death and would dance around to till I drove my mom crazy.

My very first tape that I got for my b-day (i think 6 or 7 yrs old) was the Beach Boys, the one with surfing usa... Ooh I used to love singing along to those songs...

First CD was TLC "crazysexycool"

First album I personally picked out and bought was the Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. I was probably 9 or 10.

And yes, I think that makes me really cool.
