I'm going to miss EGM. Their reviews greatly influenced what games I'd buy and which games I'd steer away from for what seems like over 10 years. Even though they were a print magazine and couldn't compete with the internet, I still enjoyed reading it.

Sadness.

Left 4 Dead, it actually has interesting ideas as opposed to the 'MORE THINGS HURRR GIBS' of Gears.

I can understand the EGM cancellation (not like, but understand - magazines are all struggling) but firing all the podcast staff and getting rid of the people who made the site what is was is something I just can't get my head around.

So, anyone know any good videogame podcasts? I like One Life Left (audio).

Giant Bomb (from the last 1UP Yours show) is pretty much the only one I listen to now.

Well I guess that about completes Ziff Davis shitting the bed. First Games for Windows gets shuttered - along with the GFW podcast - the only other podcast I ever liked besides KATG. Then unthinkably PC Magazine shutters it's print edition, now this.

Yeah, GFW and 1up Yours were the first podcasts I listened to. Bastards.

Giant Bombcast is still pretty good though.

Giant Bombcast is like a less awesome version of Gamespot's podcast back in the day, but after that site shot itself in the face with Gerstmanngate everything I ever liked about the site left.

Bioshock could have upwards of five sequels

Bioshock can ‘do a Star Wars’, says 2K boss | Gaming Industry | News by MCV

Quote:
Christoph Hartmann says title can have five sequels – but publisher promises not to “cash in” on franchise Global President of 2K Christoph Hartmann has told MCV that Bioshock has the potential to emulate the Star Wars series – and that the publisher might even create five sequels to the 2007 smash hit.

However, Hartman was careful to promise fans that 2K won’t “cash in” on the title.

In an exclusive interview, Hartmann said:

“Some of the mega-franchises we talk about only lasted ten years because companies took five years to ship a game. Look at Duke Nukem. It’s been a great franchise for 20 years, because it seems like it’s been in development for 20 years.

“For Bioshock, because it’s so story driven, the question obviously arises: how long can you do it without turning into The Matrix? The first Matrix was great, the second one was weird and the third one, you thought: ‘Who [making this] is on crack and who isn’t?’. “But, then again, look at Star Wars. It’s a fight between good and evil, just like Bioshock. If we spin it the right way and get the right twist of innovation, we can make six parts of it, as Star Wars did.

“But we have to be careful not to cash in. I won’t name the company, but there was a great racing game years ago. They brought it back year-on-year. If you look at the scores, it’s hard to believe what they’ve done to it. It’s upsetting, actually.”

Bioshock 2: Sea Of Dreams is due out on Xbox 360 and PS3 this year.

The full interview with Mr Hartmann can be seen in tomorrow’s weekly MCV magazine.
