COD6 MW2 Plot explained, (spoilers)
During a standard op, a guy gets drafted into the CIA special forces by a higher-up named Shepherd. He is sent deep undercover to follow a Mercenary (Makarov) in order to find out who is paying Makarov to do the things he does. This needs to be done because Makarov effectively doesn't exist, making him impossible to trace by normal means. Makarov isn't fooled, and uses the new CIA agent('s body) to convince Russia that an airport massacre was an American plot. Russia invades; the only way to stop the invasion is to get Makarov, and bring him to light (because he effectively doesn't exist). To get to Makarov, they need bait, so they send in Special Forces to a Gulag to get a guy known only as 'Prisoner 627', the only guy Makarov hates more than Americans. They get in, and discover that it's a main character from the first Modern Warfare. Now that they have 627 back, they tell him they need to get Makarov out of hiding, but he has his own way to end the war and goes on a mission to get to a Soviet Nuclear Submarine. They figure he's just going to threaten; he instead fires a nuke at DC, setting it to detonate in the upper atmosphere. DC isn't destroyed, but the EMP wipes out everything that isn't extremely hardened (killing all electronics and basically screwing the invasion; no vehicle support for the baddies with goodguy airbases only a few minutes away = screwed Russians). A guy on the ground in DC trying to fight off the Russians survives the battle in a fun little side-campaign. Of the guys who went to the gulag (and 627), four (Soap, Roach, Ghost, and 627) are split up and sent to two places where Makarov might be (they are a safehouse, and somewhere in the middle east). At the safehouse, there's no Makarov, but there is an armory large enough to facilitate invasion of Canada, and a computer. Roach, Ghost, and a couple nameless guys with (likely randomized) names get the info off of the computer, and all except Roach and Ghost die protecting it and getting out. When they get to Shepherd with the data (after presumably wiping the computer), he shoots both of them, takes the data, and burns their bodies. For whatever reason, he doesn't want any information on Makarov to come to light (I figure he's the one paying Makarov). Shepherd puts Prisoner 627 and Soap McTavish on the Most Wanted list for the treason of not dying when he tried to have them killed (and the whole nuke thing). 627 and Soap, who found nothing in the middle-east, call Makarov (who now also wants Shepherd dead for trying to hunt him down and kill him), who tells them where Shepherd is going. They follow, and eventually kill him in the most badass combination-fistfight/knifefight/sheerwillbattle I have ever seen. |

yeah, but it's hard to follow a plot when it's cutscenes every 30 minutes.

Finished the first two campaigns of Left 4 Dead 2 and got to the finale of the third, which is INSANELY FUCKING HARD! At one point we were fighting two tanks, a hunter and a bunch of common infected off, only to be thrown off a balcony in four different directions.
Valve do such a good job of making sure you're always on your toes while encouraging team work. I've only played with strangers and it's remarkable how everyone looks out for each other, which is just as well because the special infected seem to be using strategies together too. So far I'm liking the characters, aside from Rochelle, who doesn't have much of a personality. Building them up through chatter rather than cutscenes is a nice touch. It all seems much more varied too, particularly those finales (don't read any reviews) and the new mix of weapons. If anyone's playing it on the PC let me know, my ID is tonythesuperperson or just click the link in my sig. ...um, ok.
