Just beat Bioshock over Thanksgiving, moving onto Fallout 3, still playing Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts (which is awesome, everyone should have it. It's only $40!!).

I know- I was hoping that Ep.1 would come down in price once Ep.2 hit the "shelves" but no such luck.

I've heard the same thing- that Ep.2 is the way to go. So if I do pick one up, that'll probably be the one.

I've played online a bit, and you'd be surprised how quickly you gain XP and gold in versus matches. It's got to be almost as much as in quest mode.

From what I hear/read its a great rental game. If you want quality simple 3rd person action.

You can always try the demo. I did and decided quickly that I would be passing.

With all the great games out right now it may be best to hold off and wait for it to hit bargain bin.

Although it has nothing to do with RPGs, I think to satisfy the FPSer in you, you need to pick up Call of Duty 4. It was great; possibly one of the best shooters I've played in years.
Sure Fallout 3 melds both RPG and FPS, but COD is the quintessential shooter for the 360 hands down. If you are into online play then COD 4 is your game. It has the best leveling system in any online game for the 360. Anyways, forget Fable 2, Gears, and all that stuff... my suggestions on your preferences are COD 4/5 or Fallout 3.
