What is love?

Okay so recently it seems like so many people have been falling in and out of love. I know people who have waited 2 years, 2 months, and 2 weeks to say it. But really, what is love? What are they feeling and how do they know it isn't lust or infatuation? Is infatuation really just an obsession?

My friends ask me if I am in love or have feelings for the bf. He tells me all the time that he is falling for me and is just waiting for me to say 'I love you' first. Frankly, right as I type this, I don't feel anything. It might change when I am around him though. I don't even know.

Okay so what do you guys think? How did/does love feel for you? Am I going nuts? Will I ever be able to feel it?

By the way, I had to hold my self back this whole time from saying "Baby don't hurt me. Don't hurt me. No more."
"So... did you let him grab your tits??"-- strangeone

"so what are you saying? that i have aspergers because my mood changed IN SIX HOURS!!? you fucking douchebag. go crawl in a tree stump and die." -- windowsanddoors

The way I see it, If you think you're in love then you are. That's what love is, thoughts. It's an unmistakeable feeling, when you're in love you'll know it. I can't really explain how it feels for me, I think it feels different for different people, it is however a wonderful feeling.

I take a more romantic view on love, but some camps believe that love is actually a decision, all those butterfly's are just lust and infatuation.

Love is caring about someone else more than you do for yourself.

I agree with Dodecahedron, think romantic love is a decision.

The love I have for my children is unlike anything I've ever felt before for any man. I think that must be some kind of biological/chemical thing.

You can be as aware as you like that's it all essentially chemical reactions to make you pass on your genetic information but it's still always a surprise, always at the wrong damn time and often leaves you at your nadir afterwards.

But, uh, I'm sure you'll be fine, have fun!

love is ....

seeing yourself old and her in your arms

knowing the bad times are coming and not wanting to be anywhere but by her side

being happy to see her when she walks back into the room

warm chocolate chip cookies cooling on hard nipples in the middle of the afternoon.

thinking "I should tell her" the second something happens

or it could be gas. i dunno.

If you doubt it, I'd say it's not love. Deep Like is always possible, but love is serious, not to be taken lightly.

Take your time and don't feel pressured.

One guy said to me once, "I love you" I said "thank you". /shrug.

there is no one answer as to what love is. love is different for each person. sometimes love is just someone that you can get along with for a long enough period of time until you die. sometimes love is a feeling for a person that is unrequited. love lifts us up where we belong. love is sometimes an obsession.
the key thing for me is: can you see yourself with this person 40 years from now, with kids, a mortgage, getting old etc. your mileage may vary.

heres a cheesy cartoon from the stone ages:
