This is an old thread, and I've probably already replied to it before, but I just saw it and it's a great question.

Me, I'm big on *new* - as in, not old. I'm old enough as it is. I've always had a low tolerance for listening to the same song or artist over and over for years on end. By the time a song or artist starts getting played on a station that calls itself 'oldies' or 'classic' I've moved on. I want to hear new stuff. That's one reason I listen to rap and emo and such. I'm not too big on genre labels, but I hear Fall Out Boy is referred to as 'pop/punk' and I liked Dance, Dance and the Sixteen Candles vampire video. But I love rap. So I guess it's natural that I like numetal. Limp Bizkit rocks. I crank it up so my bass pumps out "starfish navigation sys-tem" at maximum volume. My poor wife....she doesn't understand my ghetto-mobile!

But rap and hip-hop. Damn I love that stuff. Especially anything with enough bass to rattle my trunk lid. And especially anything from the Dirty South. Some of my faves from the last year or so:

Mims - This is Why I'm Hot
ANYTHING where Mike Jooooones (who?) is flowin
Throw some D's (Just bought a Cadillac) - I actually want to record a version of this with the lyrics "Just bought an Intel Mac" but I'm not sure it will work...
Rock Your Hips
Make Me Better - not my usual fare, but awesome lyrics - I always turn it up and sing it to my wife
Lollipop - Lil' Wayne

Not rap, but I like 'em
I Kissed a Girl - Katy Perry

ok, i could go on all day. I think that's enough for a two-year-old thread.

[EDIT: oops - looks like I'm the one who necro-posted and brought this one back from the dead - yay for me]

If anyone digs Karnivool, check out Birds Of Tokyo. It's the other band that the singer sings in and they are also fantastic. Not as heavy but great music none the less. New album next week!

A few years ago I would've quickly said Aerosmith was my favorite band.
I still like them a lot, but I'm not sure if I have an absolute favorite band now.

I really like Modest Mouse, they'd probably be up there.
I love Bonnie "Prince" Billy, The Beatles and Pink Floyd.

Kimya Dawson
Andrew Bird
I've been listening to Kings of Convenience a lot lately.

Billy Joel and Elton John I like a lot.

Riot On An Empty Street is already one of my favorites of all time. The guitar work and harmonization is fucking amazing.
