The Wine Thread

I just killed a bottle of 06 Hess cab and boy is my brain numb. It's one of the first wines that I wasn't disappointed in, in a while.

The Hess is textbook $20 cab (for $12). Big, complex, and full bodied. It stood up to a serious sausage-laden Italian hero and left me smiling (regardless of how much fatter I just became).

I need recommendations for vino that doesn't suck with some notes on the wine. I'm sick of paying big bucks for shitty (or worse) unbalanced jam-bomb wines.

Post other shite here too, like wine travels, wine opinions, yadda, fucking yadda

If you like Yellow Tail or any wine with a cartoon animal on the label you are retarded and not welcome in this discussion. I won't discriminate against whites or sweet stuff, but over-marketed shit is a no-go.

Posting while drunk is highly encouraged (see above post as an example)

As far as Austrailian goes, I like Wolf Blass, Jacob's Creek whites.

So many good ones, I know you don't have many Canadian wines that I normally enjoy, but Ontario does make some really good ones.

I like lighter wines usually, pinot gris, but a good chardonnay is nice, but I'm picky. Fat Bastard is quite good but quite heavy.

I believe they make a Shiraz as well. Meritage is a red blend, usually with merlot, Cab sauv and pinot noir if you want something heavy and robust.

I love all kinds of wine and it's my beverage of choice when it's available.

I had an 05 Riesling last Christmas that was unbelievable and it pained me while I drank it that I'll probably never have another glass again.

Don't hate on Yellowtail. It's decent wine for a bargain price. Only hate on the people that don't drink anything but Yellowtail.

Here's the reason why I love wine: The wine videos that sum up WINE LIBRARY TV. Instant classic-Episode #125. Some Jets fan from Jersey that runs the biggest wine shop in the northeast decided to do a video podcast. Check it out it's fucking awesome and he will make you love wine.

I agree about Yellow Tail, and other mass produced highly marketed wines. They are alright, and for the mass production are more affordable, but the quality gets compromised every other bottle or so imo. Anyway here are some I like

Bodegas Norton Argentinian Malbec, their entry level wines are pretty solid for being about $10, and also I just really enjoy Malbec

Dr. Loosen German Eroica Riesling Hands down the best Riesling I've had, Kabinett off dry and I dunno if I was fooled by the label but I tasted peaches. It runs about $20-$25 (It's made in conjunction with Chateau Ste Michelle )

Concho y Toro, Casillero Del Diablo, Chile. any of the entry level wines are cheap and solid wines for sure. I like the Carmenere alot since it's fruit forward and yet complex, something a lot of entry level Merlots and Pinot Noirs lack.

Argyle Pinot Noir, Oregon. Their Pinot Noir consistently wins awards and again doesn't hurt on the wallet coming in around $10-$20 a bottle.

Akai had great values on a couple of his recommendations, especially the South American stuff.

What's your recommendation?
