I would imagine very few people can go for 10 miles at all.

Good Luck!
My marathon was Sunday. I needed to maintain a 6:52 pace to get under 3. Almost made it - 3:00:09. It rained the entire race. I chafed in places I didn't know existed

My GPS was off by about 1/4 mile by the end and thankfully there was a volunteer at each mile marker telling me what my pace was and what my finish time would be if I held pace. My first half was 1:30:19 and second half 1:29:50. A sign of a well paced race is if you finish the second half slightly faster.

Good news is that I'm almost fully recovered and will be hitting the trails again tomorrow. I'm going to try again in the fall. Maybe Chicago or Columbus. Something flat.

Incognito, those are some good links including the trail tips. Tempo runs, road intervals and fartleks can all be done on the same 1.1 mile route so one way to avoid the monotony is to vary your speed and intensity. I would try to do 1 or 2 easy runs, one speed run and one longer run per week.

I'd highly recommend getting in some trail miles. Trail shoes are not a requirement to run trails but they can have special construction built in (rock shield) to protect your feet from trail hazards. If you are just running flat, soft dirt trails, an older pair of road shoes will work.

Running on trails will help you avoid injury from your road runs. The varying terrain works different muscles and will build strength and stability in your legs. Shin splints are a form of repetitive use injury that I think many runners could avoid if they ran more trails.

And in the summer, shady forest trails are so much cooler than hot pavement

True, very few people could jump up off of the couch and run 10 miles. Anyone that can run 1 mile can run 10 (or 26.2). I ran with 14,000 people two days ago who would agree with me. Believe me, they weren't all highly trained athletes but they got it done.

Decided to start going to the gym with Dr. BF at 5am every morning to see if I could get rid of this insomnia I've been having for a month or so now. I only started Monday, but I think it may be working. I slept better last night than I had in awhile, and hopefully I'll sleep the whole night through tonight. Doesn't hurt that it will up my gym schedule from 3 days a week to 5.

Thanks!

I signed up for a bunch of fitness tests to see what I should focus on over the summer. Today was VO2 max and felt like I was gonna suffocate wearing that mask. I got 60.9 peak, which is towards the high end for non-endurance sports. I'm gonna start speed/agility drills instead of intervals since my cardio fitness seems to be sufficient, but my speed leaves a lot to be desired.

With all this success of people losing weight, I, on the other hand, am trying to gain it, up to 200 lb. hopefully. Lost a couple pounds this week. Very difficult to gain :>

I only lost 2 lbs last week.. That sucks for my goal, However I missed a workout or two as well.... Lame! On a high note, I ran on a flat surface for about 3.5-4 miles consistently on my long run yesterday... I fellt like I coulda done another 5 :-). I started at a slow pace but picked it up when I realized how easy it seemed........

Did stretch and stregnth today 120 crunches, three 60 second ab bridges... weights 3 reps of 12 on the fitness machines, (pull down, rowing, weights/shoulders)

I am sticking to -1800 calories a day for this week, 3,000 calories on my cheat day... Lets see where I end up next monday in regards to weight... I am down to 224 lbs, I think I started at 244 lbs. At my worst I was 255 lbs... So making steady progress.

Found a trail I can run yesterday as well. 1.5 miles long, will be hitting that up..... Also on my x-training days going to be doing some beginning mountainbiking to mix it up a little, instead of the elliptical (which is super boring to me). Will try some Fartleks, they seem pretty interesting... I needd to build up my aerobic/cardio....

I am thinking I may do a sprint triathalon after or before my 10k..... Seems like fun (but exhausting) lol

congrats on the run 26.2!

Down to 166.5lbs, lost 1.5 last week. Started some basic plyometrics (split jumps, tuck jumps, side jumps) and learning to power clean.
