I stretch, and it does help.

Do you use proper form? Youtube "mark rippetoe squat", he has videos where he coaches people to do lifts properly. It's hard to imagine how knees can cave in from that stance, they'd have to make like a 60 degree angle with the ankles.

They do

I'm a pretty bendy person, which can be a good thing in a lot of contexts, not so much with the overall joint health.

EDIT:

I just watched this. I've been squatting wrong the whole time. I thought I had to keep my feet straight, no wonder I suck so much. Thanks!

He wrote a book on basic barbell exercises, "Starting Strength", it's like 300 pages on 5 exercises.

Here is the foot position he recommends:

Also push off the heels, which is something I suck at since whenever I squat to just sit, I usually go on my toes.

Wow. Sounds comprehensive. It's $25 on amazon, not a cheap book.

I think you can get most of the info from his videos and the internet, after a while you should be able to tell who's giving good advice.

Anyway, I don't really know how flat feet or bad knees affect the stance, maybe someone who's actually qualified has some advice, I never looked for it so I wouldn't know.

I'm no expert, but I now regularly work out after fencing practice. I usually take at least an hour break though.
