I did Landmark Forum years ago on the recommendation of Rashan, who also went through it. Overall, it was a good opportunity to uncover some emotional cruft and to learn some new tools for living, but it wasn't the overnight cure to all of life's problems.

The tough part was physically being in a windowless conference room for three days. That's no joke. The chairs were giving us back spasms by the end, which we wondered were part of the training itself — some physical discomfort to see if you can detach your mind from the real world. Probably, just cheap chairs.

The cult-like part comes after — when the phone calls start. They want you back. They want you to take more courses, and even to volunteer or take the same weekend seminar again, this time with more insight. I had to tell them off so many times.

Kid Rock is leading in a poll for Senate in Michigan. Not just the GOP primary -- he is leading the general election against the current Democratic senator (when you add in "decided" + "leaning").

Not in hindsight, but back then.

Fact checking:

Once you have larger population centers clean drinking water is hard to maintain so you need to find an alternative.

Europe came up with beer which kills a lot of the bacteria in the brewing process and Asia came up with boiling water into tea.

In Asia a large % of the population carries genes that mean its harder for their body to deal with alcohol which was fine because they didn't need it. Unrelated but similar is a higher % of lactose intolerance in Asia because they didn't rely on dairy as a key food source.

i talked to my childhood best friend this week. she lives a couple of hours away and i hang out with her grown up besties when i visit, so they're not my loved ones or my own chosen family, but we've known and enjoyed each others' companies for almost fifteen years.

one of those lovely friends married a girl with whom childhood bestie and i went to high school. crazy fucking cunt. she liked The Beatles /way/ too much and that should have tipped us off. anyway, this lovely person shot himself in the temple. crazy cunt i guess shot herself, too, but survived with a whatever not so scary scar under her chin. after hearing the ins and outs i am convinced if she didn't pull his trigger, she certainly egged him on. i heard at the memorial service she was comparing herself to Jackie O. and sang NIN's classic "Hurt" to all his loved ones and chosen family that flew in. by all accounts, it was bizarre.

I had a boss who killed himself several years ago. I've been lucky with bosses in my life overall, but he was fucking great. The place he ran was the best job I ever had. It was/is a landmark restaurant that already fostered close knit relationships among the crew because it was a cool place to work staffed by fun, creative weirdos. I never laughed so much on the clock as I did there.

After he died we all banded together and kept the place running until his wife, who was co-owner, was able to get back on her feet. We worked hard to keep that place's vibe and spirit alive, and I think for the most part we succeeded. It was a very influential time in my life, and I still miss him.

I think I remember hearing an interview with Pam Anderson, years ago, when she was married to Kid Rock. I think she said her kid(s) called him Uncle Bob and I've thought of him as Uncle Bob ever since. Not MY Uncle Bob, to be clear. I wouldn't vote for him, but I like some of his music.
