New York things to do? Newbie

Hey guys, I'm travelling to NYC for 10 days next week.

Apart from the usual tourist shite, is there any thing you would recommend?

Would have loved to have seen the Bowery poetry club in its prime, played tears or tits, but it's closed.

All suggestions welcome, cheers guys!
