Right. Have traced the problem I think.
Had a party at our house a few weeks ago and I removed all the remembered passwords from firefox so people wouldn't muck with my stuff. There must be a time out with the forums which firefox used to automatically renew.
Have restored the password within firefox and I seem to be back in business.
