I kind of take back what I said about Turisas's new album. There's a lot to get hung up on, like that the first half is weak, the lyrical shift is cheesy, the metal has kind of taken a back seat, etc., but when what they are trying to do works, it's brilliant, and nobody else is really doing what they're doing.
They've injected an orchestral sound that is reminiscent of movies from like 60 years ago, which I thoroughly enjoy, and nobody makes music like that anymore.
It's not an even album by any means, but if they keep backloading albums with spurts of brilliance, I'll keep buying them. I wish they could figure out a way to make a consistently great album, though.
