Post What colour is Isreal really (it's sand)?

Keith was talking about country colours again recently - he brought up the colour of Greece. He thought it was grey.

Of course he's most heard proclaiming that Israel is brown.


I thought I'd do some research and see what I found:

I went to Google earth and took a screenshot of Israel, then cut out round the border to get just the country, setting the background to white:



I then went here and uploaded the image to get the average colour (making sure it's set to ignore background colour):

Whats Its Color: Find the complementary and primary color of any image


Turns out Israel's colour is #9d9781:




Which is sort of grey yellowy. Sand in fact. Given that Keith might well not be a super-see-er, I think that's close enough to Brown to give him the benefit of the doubt.


Anyway, if anyone's up for doing the same for Greece and the US then go ahead. I think I'd better get back to work..
