My friends and I have scared off black bears making noise and hitting sticks together.

I doubt this would work with a brown or grizzly bear. Also, every year a few teens get mauled to death by bears in Yellowstone. In almost every instance, they left food out and attracted the bears.

The story about the girl just jumping into the car and demanding a ride was beautiful. I can't even pretend that I'm mad at her. I love her brazen attitude. I would have driven her home just for the conversation potential; "So... tell me about your life!"

Seeing how it's impossible to outrun/out-climb a bear, what choice do you have but to try and make yourself bigger? The real question is, do bears have any natural predators? Why would they fear anything even if it was bigger? Playing dead seems more logical since bears aren't scavengers... not counting pic-a-nic baskets of course.

Right?? I don't think they do. We have mountain lions and bears. I've never heard of bear killed by big cat.

Bears are gangster as fuck. If you've ever seen one in real life -it's shocking. You experience a fear never felt before. Hell, you can go into a place that just has one stuffed and mounted. Even dead, bears are terrifying.

Bears are gangster as fuck, but also lazy as fuck. All along the edge of my mountain town, the garbage cans in parks are thick heavy steel. They're bolted to ground and have special drop lids like those blue city mail-boxes. If bears are in your neighborhood, they'll go through all the garbage.

Why would they not be lazy and take advantage of readily available food sources? They are omnivores so they are expected to eat whatever they can find. Its our fault for throwing away stuff that they can eat or at least that smells like they can eat it.

You are not walking miles outside of your town to hunt and gather food somewhere from the woods when there is a nice supermarket full of yummy stuff right in your town.

We were staying at my wife's cousins- they live in the countryside. Next to the door this was hanging, the label says "bear bell". I was told you must carry this at night to "scare away" any bears. I stayed inside.

My mother and step mother also both scared off bears by making them selves big. My mom even barked.
