Toni, in Portugal if you have a domestic partner, after 2 years you have the same rights except for a few minor ones. You are basically married. I got married after living with my husband fot 7 years and having a two year old mostly because he was afraid I would miss out on his pension in case he died (he works for the state and that's one of the rights I would not have in case of death). But aside from that it's almost if not all equal.
[Also, I wanted to own a diamond] Germany is way more advanced on a bunch of social issues so I can't wait to hear Apia's opinion. Last edited by Thumbnail; 03-30-2015 at 05:55 AM. |

From what I see in my friends and colleagues most of them get married at the point when they are ready to have kids as some of the legal issues around that are easier when married and you get benefits like tax breaks.
Engagements are absolutely not as big a thing here as they are in the US, ladies might get a ring (but I have friends that didn't get one) and not the crazy diamonds you hear about in the US. Mainly saying "we are engaged" means that you have set the date for the wedding and start preparing for it. We do have "registered partnerships" for gay couples since 2001 which is not quite exactly the same as full marriage equality but gives most of the important benefits. There have been proposals to make it completely equal but the conservative government we had in the last 10 years keeps voting against it. |

Christian will give each wife a "phone day." Do not text him in the PM, he may be on stage with his ringer on. And just send him one big ole text message, no need to break it up or you will go to the end of the line. You're welcome, Finger Lakes!

It's interesting hearing how other countries view marriage. I had no idea. I wonder if America is different because of economics? Maybe religion? My half sister is lesbian. She had to move from the west coast, (liberal SoCal even) across country out east to Massachusetts to get married. It was that important. She and her wife couldn't feel human until legally married and treated as fellow citizens. |

*getting the popcorn*
I could have sworn that said "half lesbian sister." And why did she have to move, it's not like residency is needed right? (Or was that more for protection purposes post-marriage?) |

Lol. She WAS half lesbian, (had a daughter - with a man, as one does with P in the V) but then he was an asshole and she always fucked women too. Then Stacy met Shannon. But now Stacy goes by Lou. Which is really fucking up this easter basket because I'm not going to call her Lou. She isn't trans, for chrissakes. Who ASKS to be called LOU?!
Anyways. My daughters assembling this easter basket of delicious chocolates and we better get something in return. It's Quid Pro Quo. It's America. Wait. What were we talking about? Oh. Yeah. My sis. She's a big dyke. The End. ![]() |
