Similarly, the Jack Russell attack detailed in the notes was to the lip; one of the only places a Jack Russell can do real damage.
guess what - we only care about attacks where damage is done.

While the Pit bulls' deaths appear include a 17 year old who ran into traffic to escape a Pit bull, someone falling and hitting their head due to an attack, a heart attack suffered breaking up Pit bulls fighting, and a few terrible people who used them to commit murders. Many of the deaths listed are consistent with Pit bulls simply being able to do much more damage; sepsis from the deeper bites etc.
You realise that this also doesn't support your argument. If a 17 year old is so fearful that they have to run into traffic to avoid a dog attack, then that is a dog fatality.

An attempt (however dodgy the data) to quantify dog breed's relative aggression rather than relative danger, concludes that "Dachshunds, Chihuahuas and Jack Russell Terriers" are unusually aggressive to humans, and that Pit bulls are unusually aggressive to unfamiliar dogs.
Lucky they are small

At least one study backs the notion that dogs with a reputation for aggression are more likely to be owned by shitty people.
It always amazes me how pitbull advocates are always willing to throw every other pitbull owner under the bus. But:

Alexandria Griffin-Heady, Pit Bull Advocate owned the Pit Bulls that killed her brother Tyler Trammell Huston - 9yrs old - Linda, CA. on Jan 1 2016.

Clifford Wright, Pit Bull Advocate killed by his sons Pit Bull in 2012. Cliffords son had the dog that killed him cremated so he could keep the dogs ashes.

Darla Napora, Pit Bull Advocate Bad Rap Supporter. Darla and her unborn child was killed by her own Pit Bull in Aug of 2011. Darla's husband had the dog that killed her cremated and buried with his wife.

Edward Cahill, Pit Bull Advocate killed by his own Pit Bull on Christmas day in 2014.

Rebecca Carey, Pit Bull Advocate Rescue Angel Killed by Pit Bulls she rescued in 2014.

Quote:
I find this to be consistent with my experience; the Pit bulls and Rottweillers I've known have mostly been gigantic pussies because they're raised by people obsessed with doing it correctly (one Rotty - a rescue - was legitimately dangerous and had to be treated as such).
You experience shows that "agressive dogs are more likely to owned by shitty people". Do your friends know that you think they are shitty?

Quote:
While it is appropriate that they be muzzled and leashed in public etc., it feels wrong that these gentle giants have a bad reputation, while the neighbours Shitzu - which does its best to kill me every time it sees me - is treated as blameless simply because it's harmless.
Let's be clear - a Shitzu with a bad temperament is not a dangerous dog. Its not hard to understand, for a dog to be dangerous it has to be physically capable and have a bad disposition.

Labrador retrievers are big powerful dogs with a sweet disposition. Your Shitzu might be a monster, no one cares.

The stats I posted earlier show that less than 2.7% of pitbulls are involved in an attack each year. So 97% of pitbulls don't attack each year and maybe the ones you know are in that 97%. Sound good until you see how many deaths that adds up to.

So your "feelings" about "gentle giants" are irrelevant - look at the numbers and ask yourself whether you want to reduce dog attack deaths by 80% (not to mention mameings) or whether you think fuck them - who cares if a two year old child has no arms, or no face, I think pit bulls are cute.

btw - don't do what I just did and google image search "pitbull victims". I'm not gonna sleep tonight

You pointed to a study that you said indicated shitty people wanted dogs perceived as dangerous. Then you talked about the pitbulls and rotties you are familiar with - I assume you are familiar with the owner, and that would make them a friend you think of as shitty correct?

(whether the individual dog is docile is irrelevant because this is about perception)

How are we going to reduce these deaths by 80%? By banning two specific breeds? Probably not effective in the long term.
Absolutely - if breeders want to start a selective breeding program to create a new baby eating machine (say 30 years) we can save 10,000 lives. And then ban that one.

Meanwhile, there are a few properties shared by almost all dangerous dogs; that they mass more than 20 kg, their bite strength, whether or not they are neutered, their sex etc.
Would it not be reasonable to regulate the consistent properties, rather than engaging in a politically charged arms race?
We agree - ban any dog that has a dog fighting pedigree first. This is what makes pitbulls dangerous. Its not their weight (there are heavier dogs) or their bight strength (there are stronger dogs), or whether they are desexed.

politically charged arms race
Now you re just saying words - I've changed my mind, you should Google image search "pitbull victims" and tell me about those little babies politics.

Myka Fox vs Jonah Hill

"He looks like Bat Boy fucked Shrek"

Can't wait for Myka to open for Keith. About time someone tricked her into doing a live stand up special. Even if only for a minute or two.

He bit me once while I playing with him and reaching for a toy that he was trying to get, and it felt like he crushed every bone in my hand. He wouldn't come near me for awhile after that.

He was the smartest dog that I've ever owned though. I had him trained to respond only to hand signals when he was a puppy, and he'd sit at the doorway to a room until I gave him permission to come in. The people that ran the dog training class I went to wanted to use him to demonstrate commands and behavior.

The only violent dog thing I've ever had happen in my life was my friend's boyfriends golden retriever, who lived with these dogs for years, ATE her two Chihuahuas.
