I was just wondering what you guys take on norwegian black metal is?
Being Norwegian myself, I have never been too into BM but latley I have been listening alot more to it. Dimmu Borgir stands out as my favorite by far.. Would love to hear anyone`s thaughts. |

Actually, a lot of BM purests would go as far to say that Dimmu Borgir aren't even Black Metal anymore. You should check out Darkthrone, Carpathian Forest, Bathory, Immortal and Venom who some say were the originators.

Norway doesn't have much metal output these days, it seems. Finland and Sweden are doing all the work. I'm guessing if you're talking about Dimmu and the Norwegian scene, you could probably use some pointers.
Apart from the aforementioned black metal bands, other notables include: The Abyss, Angantyr, Nargaroth, Satanic Warmaster, Horna, Behexen, Sacramentum, and Wolves in the Throne Room. Or, at least, those would be ones I would recommend. Given the nature of the scene, everyone will have their own underground picks. If you appreciate the theatrics of more recent Dimmu Borgir, I would suggest Tvangeste's Firestorm, Twilight Ophera's The End of Halcyon Age, and Sear Bliss's Glory and Perdition. If you are willing to try the folk side of overblown theatrics, there's Moonsorrow, Wintersun, Turisas, and Equilibrium. |

I have heard most of the norwegian ones..Think Dimmu might be the only one I actually can sit tru a whole album and truly enoy every song. They are incredebly good.
This one in particular is epic, haha got to love how spinal tap it is! YouTube - Dimmu Borgir - Live At Wacken Open Air (2007) The purist`s just dont like BM getting mainstream recognition, like alot of metal fans is I suppose. I love Black Dhalia Murder, they are awsome.. Wondering if any of you have heard The Cumshots? Awsome band i do have difffcult time placeing in any metal geanrea. YouTube - The Cumshots-I Drink Alone Keep tread going, get links! |

From what I've read so far, nobody has mentioned Bezerker. Bezerker is an amazing metal band, and were the first metal band I listened to. I think they might be considered Death Metal.
