I'll ceed the religion atheist debat is played out and I giant circle jerk but hey I haven't had a good wank in a while. I just don't see how the viewpoint that there was nothing, nothing happend and then there was something, and now something is a sentiant life form is any less quackery, than any other belif system at this point. No ego stroking envolved I am far from christian or atheist ergo my words are apt since I am not a proponet for either side, just meerly curious how people find it so easy on both sides to make a decision (granted I was aiming more at aethist with my last post) either way. On one side of the isle you have christians waiting to prove the existence of god and the other Aethist waiting to disprove. I just don't think the jury is out. I'm sorry for stirring this post up again. Absolutley an excersice in futility.

That being said, we Christened our kid Catholic because I think it's fair to give your kid something to tell people when they ask questions like the one you're asking in this thread. If he chooses to say "I'm an Atheist" then so be it. We had the discussion at home, my boyfriend was like "we're being hypocritical"; I said, "look, you're basically agnostic but when someone asks you say Protestant, why? It is some form of identity, and it's not set in stone. We give him this one thing and if he doesn't like it, he can change it." Anyway, he's my little Catholic who never goes to church. As an Atheist, nothing pisses me off more than seeing Atheist parents train their children to spout their god-less rhetoric. They look and sound no different than children of religious fanaticals. A passionate belief or dis-belief can not be respected if its not from a genuine origin that has been defined by an individuals own experiences and decisions. |

I was baptised as Protestant as that was the religion from my mothers side of the family and my father who grew up Catholic already knew at that point in his life that Catholicism was the bigger bullshit (aka Protestant priests molest less kids because they are allowed to have sex). But neither of my parents were very religious so we never really went to church and just went to confirmation at 14 because that's what all my friends did.
I officially left church in my mid/early 20 as in Germany the state collects taxes for church if you are baptised unless you officially declare yourself otherwise. My sister married a catholic guy and he insists on baptising their baby catholic which both my sister and the rest of our family are against but my sister finally gave up as after all she doesn't believe anyway and it means a lot to him - hahjeez. |
