Doctor Who is taking 2009 off. 2010 is when the next season starts. Also, Tennant is leaving as the doctor. there are only a few specials to be aired in 2009, however.

Because he is no longer going to be playing The Doctor when the show starts up again in 2010. AND, the reason they aren't filming for 2009 is because Tennant is playing Hamlet for The Royal Shakespeare Company... he decided he wasn't coming back AFTER they made 2009 a year of only holiday specials.
