As if that woman would not have clutched her purse in a "death grip" if it was a white man. Or someone wearing raggedy clothes and piercings. Or a mentally retarded person. I'm sure it has far less to do with skin color than he thinks. That guy looks like an angry mean motherfucker and he deserves all the weird behaviour he perceives to be aimed at him. Fuck that.

I disagree. No, that woman would NOT have grabbed her purse if a white man walked into the elevator. You may have a point, Satii, that she may have reacted the same way in regards to a person wearing raggedy clothes or piercings but she probably thinks the person with dirty, ripped clothes is a bum and the pierced person is some kind of low life punk.

The fact that she would equate a well dressed, suit and tie wearing black man with either of those stereotypes is disgusting.

And maybe the black man "looks like an angry mean motherfucker" because he is discriminated against like this on a daily basis.

Everybody seems to be missing the real point...

What is a death grip going to do against a robbery in an elevator? The only thing a death grip protects against is a quick snatch-and-sprint on the street. If this guy was going to rob her and take her purse, the death grip wouldn't stop him... because he's black.

Also, what does he care if people clutch their purses. How does that even remotely affect him? He's riding the fucking elevator, his only concern should be is that it takes him up or down where he wants to go.

I don't feel that angry when someone does something like that. I mean I notice it but I can't really get mad at them. I'm not even sure that it's racist all the time. They are just using the prejudices that govern their lives to protect themselves. I do it too sometimes. Like if I see a cop walking down the street while I'm minding my business I just leave. Cause I know cops hate black people.

I'm not scared of black people in general. It's a cultural thing. We don't have black people here, so the only ones I've met are university lecturers and they are nothing to fear.
