That response seems a little overblown. There was a lot of great things in the finale. I loved most of the scenes leading up to the last scene, and kind of dug the last scene...less so on a re-watch. This, like the last two finales was the transition from the previous conflict to the next. If we had the Red Wedding every week, there wouldn't be anyone left.
Let's break it down. The Red Reception Getting to see the North Army slaughtered and the King in the North was pretty damn fantastic. I can't say anything bad about this scene. Tyrion and SansaFun to see them get along and that Sansa can still have a level of innocence. Shame it couldn't last. Small Council Scene and Tywin/Tyrion A perfect scene from beginning to end. Tywin is the boss...and an asshole. Northern resistance is over, and the fall of House Stark is complete. Tyrion and Sansa IIA nice, brief, sad scene. Bran and Co I A nice bit of atmosphere and exposition. Also, Hodor. Walder and RooseGood old fashion mustache twirling villainy. Roose badmouths Robb for ignoring his advice only to have Walder ignore his advise. Roose is basically the new Ned Stark legally speaking and that would be bad enough for the North if not for.... Ramsay and Theon Now that there is no pretense of mystery, I think this is the best scene they've done. Ramsay is the new Robb, legally, so that's fun. Really, I think they were trying to keep us in the place of Theon not knowing what's going on, but also they wanted us to not look too closely at Bolton and his people. Also, we knew in Season 2 that the Bastard of Bolton was going to get Theon, and so he did. And Theon finally has his new name. Theon's arc from a person to a something that reeks is just about complete. Bran and Co II A crossing of storylines, yay! Bran still has his visions that I don't think are as clear as they should be to the audience. But, the positive of a crossover outweighs weaknesses in character motivations. The Greyjoys Awesomeness. Wish we had seen them sooner, but I understand why we haven't. Bran and Co IIIDragonclass and parted ways. Bran and Co are finally north of the wall, yay! I'm a little worried about this plotline next year. But as it's a plotline that folks don't care for, I suppose we can expect more of the same. Dragonstone I'll combine these and just say I loved everything about this. Davos is the new Ned Stark (character wise) with more political sense. Gendry escapes, and Stannis looks North. Between this and the fall of House Stark we seem to be moving away from the actual "Game of Thrones". At least as far as armies are concerned. Shae/VarysI like this scene, but Shae's dumb for not taking it. Tyrion and Cersei A good scene reflecting on the present and future. Just because they've won, doesn't mean the Lannisters can rest easy. Arya and the HoundArya's arc of trying to find her family is pretty much done. She's a ball of vengeance with the Hound as her replacement Direwolf. Snow and Ygritte Really, Jon? Did you really need to stop? Ehh, the acting makes this scene a great one. Castle Black Pretty cool bringing back actors we haven't seen since Season 1, everybody's getting ready for the attack on the realm. The Night's Watch instead of ranging and focusing on Wildings, will have to look to the larger threat. Jaime/Brienne/Cersei Too short of a scene, but I can understand them not wanting to cast twincest in a positive light in any way. Up to this point, everything was great. I didn't notice that we didn't see Mance Rayder and his Wildings again until later, and they better show his obviously deleted scene next season. There was also...something from much later in the book that I think would have made a better finale, but I also get why that cut. They wanted a more positive way to end the season, trying to emulate the end of Season 1, which they didn't quite pull of. Dany I liked this scene the first time I watched it. Yay, the slaves are freed, Dany has got more folks, lets go onto the next one. Then I went on the internet and now I can't unsee the Great White Liberator archetype where the white lady swoops in and save all those helpless people of color. I mean, they film in Morocco and probably just grabbed as many random people to be extras as possible, but....yeah. I mean, things to come may just subvert the idea of the Great White Liberator, but I suppose we'll see. All that aside it didn't have the same emotional punch as the previous two seasons and that's a shame. But I think up until the epilogue, this was probably the best finale, bring a few arcs to a close, setting up the conflicts of next season. I don't know what more you could ask for? Other than some lines for Brienne, of course. |

Why didn't the show at least start the dragon attack or white walker war as a cliff hanger for next season?
Instead we get the new beginning of one-handed lannister incest or likely peda-sex between the midget and his lame stark lady. |

And because Yunkai surrendered to Dany peacefully, no need for a dragon attack. And because the White Walkers are really, really slow. And because the show ended 3/4's of the way through a book, and there's still the last 1/4 of it for next season. |

![]() We don't need to a year to process the stark massacre. I was referring to the Dragon attack on the lannister's not Yunkai.... The white walkers walk so slow it will be season 98 before they arrive. |

Yes, well Dany's on a free the slaves kick, and it'll take a bit of time for information of the Stark murders to get across the sea. It took 9 episodes in season 2 for anyone to talk about dragons over in Westeros and another few episodes in season 3 for King Joffrey to hear about it. Information travels slowly unless someone intends for the information to get out, and no one in Westeros cares much for sending Dany information.

wow I didn't realize someone's "opinion" can be considered overblown when the response to said opinion is nothing short of a thesis
![]() I stand by what I said. Episode 10/the season finale is usually boring and sets up Ep 1 of the next season, I know that & get it. I just found this episode 10 to be the worse season finale yet. And once we found out how quickly the message about the white walkers traveled by raven (which has truly never happened before), it contradicted everything we knew about how slowly news travels through Westeros. |

If things look as good next season as they do in this trailer, we're going to have the best season of the show I think. I mean, I consider last season the best, but having read the book and seeing these visuals....next season is going to be awesome.
