Just got mine last night. Love it. Very easy setup. Didn't notice any picture quality issues. Great deal, especially if you like older obscure stuff.

I've been thinking of getting one of these Roku players as well. I use a Mac Mini as a media server on my LCD 42" but not usually anything more than that, sometimes a bit of surfing; boards, porn, etc... Anyway being a long time Netflix person and given that I have to run Qemu in order to run crappy Windows (which is "on loan") so I can use their streaming service I think it worth the $100.

As for the Apple Tv; that's pay as you go and very much a rip off on several levels. The fact that they charge for viewing content that is streamed in HD from the original production company for free is enough reason to scoff at it. I love my Mac but for the money using the Mini as a media server seems best. Just a thought before you spend that cash on the Apple Tv. Of course just my two cents.

Wow, the newest update really improved my streaming performance. When attached to my DSL through a wired connection I usually only got 2/4 dots quality. I'm solidly 4-dots now and even get full HD. If you have a cable connection you probably always had 4/4 performance, but this is huge for DSL.

Roku sent me an email last week stating that Amazon VOD is coming to the Roku player. I am crossing my fingers that Hulu will be in the future

I got the same email, which hinted at more content being on it's way soon, and amazon VOD very soon. Hulu would be awesome, but I would bet it's more likely to be one or more of the networks putting out a VOD or streaming channel on the Roku device.

First, you can now watch, in high definition (HD), the hundreds of movies and TV episodes offered in HD instantly by Netflix. Second, an incredible 40,000 movies and TV shows from Amazon Video On Demand will soon be available to choose from on your Roku player.

Things may already look a little different on your Roku home screen. And don't worry -- if they don't now, they will soon. There's nothing you need to do, and there's no need to call us. An automatic, free update will reach your player in the next several days. Just be patient and leave your player plugged in and connected to the Internet. (You'll know you've received the update if, when you press the UP button from the Netflix Instant Queue, you see the purple and white Roku Home screen with icons for Settings, Netflix, and What’s New.)

A second update, again free and automatic, requiring no action from you, will arrive in a few weeks. You'll have instant access, from your couch, to over 40,000 commercial-free movies and TV shows for rent or purchase from Amazon Video On Demand. Hits like The Dark Knight, Pineapple Express, Get Smart and others will be available the same day they release on DVD. Rentals range from 99 cents to $3.99 for a 24 hour viewing window and require no monthly subscription fee.

Amazon is just the start. More announcements of new things to watch and enjoy on your Roku player are in the pipeline for 2009.

Happy new year, and thank you again for being a Roku customer.

Xbox users can already get Amazon Video stuff to play since it uses WMV for the DRM. Media Center can decode it

No...

It is for Roku only. It has nothing to do with the Netflix watch now feature.
