I played the 1st edition occasionally and 2nd edition almost religiously. Never got into 3 or 3.5 even though I have all of the books (too much extra crap to mess with). And my forums name is also the character name I always use.

I was never allowed to play D&D because my Dad thought it promoted Satanism. He's mellowed out a lot since then, though I've never played, nor do I have any interest in playing, such games.

I had a friend in high school whose father was the preacher at the local Presbyterian Church and he wasn't allowed to play either because of the same reason. We eventually got his dad to sit and watch a game, and when he realized that the characters were normally helping people with problems or fighting "evil creatures" he caved and let him play.

Right now my friends and are are still playing 3.5. I'm trying to get them to try 4e because I think they'll like.

I'm working on my next game I'll GM and I'm torn between a one-shot of 4e and run the campaign with Pathfinder rules.

In case you don't know what pathfinder is... Paizo (former publishers of Dungeon and Dragon Magazines) picked up the 3.5 license from WOTC and is in development in coming out with their own d20 version. It is in its Beta development now. Paizo is listening to player feedback on their forums on what this final version will be, if your into that.

Anyway, I like the way 4e feels because it appeals to my GM style. It doesn't emphasize super-powered characters so I can concentrate on story and not what monster I need to challenge them next.

I just got Tome and Blood. The Blood Magus class really interests me. I especially like the homunculous feature.

In a nutshell what major things did they change between 3.5 and 4? I was looking for a little conversion book like they had between 2 and 3 but didn't find one. So without actually buying the books, I'm lost with the new set.

First they allowed you to chose what ability scores applied to your Fort/Ref/Will. in 3.5 it was feats that allowed you to apply your INT to Reflex rather than DEX. Now you can just decide at character creation that your STR Can be your bonus to Fort, INT/DEX to Ref or CHA/WIS to WIll.

Another big change is the at will, encounter and daily powers. Without going into much detail; combat is now more fluid and exciting.

The skill list is dramatically scaled down without having to buy ranks every time you level. You are either trained or not in a skill.

This is just the tip of the bigger picture, but is still d20 rules: roll d20 add your modifier(s) to come up with your total to overcome a DC.

Do you have a specific question about the system?

No not really. I had just barely heard anything about version 4. I wanted to start playing 3/3.5 but after getting the books, decided that there was alot of stuff to wade through just to get the game going. So I was curious if they made changes that helped or just added alot more to make game setup a pain.

One reason I favor 1 and 2. You don't mess with DC. Yeah it's the Dm's job to make things a challenge, but, the players should also know that when they are getting beat that it's time to run. (unless by not playing enough to get used to it maybe I don't quite understand how to use it correctly)

I played a few years ago. I'm not sure what version it was, we ran a ongoing campaign for about two months before I gave up on it. I'm not sure if it was the DM or the game itself but I just couldn't get into it and only kept going as long as I did because the DM was my boss at work and I was... well... kissing ass. lol.

Now, as for what RPG I really enjoy... anybody play Rifts or any other Palladium platform game? A couple friends are pushing me to run a Rifts campaign again but I have not committed to anything yet. With the limited time I have to play any game right now, I would prefer to play the WoW TCG.
