It's good, not great but the rock sound gives me hope that the new album might not disappoint. They play their first show in 7 years tomorrow night in Paris - hopefully there's a decent recording of it and we get to hear some new stuff lickety-split. |

"The Smashing Pumpkins return!!! This is the first of many official videos giving a glimpse at the return of this quintessential band to the alternative music world. Set to the song "Tarantula", which will appear on their forthcoming album "Zeitgeist" in stores July 10th, 2007. Filmed in Paris, France at the Grand Rex."

Lovely dress Billy. I have only heard good things so far. Apart from the rather expensive tickets (in the UK anyway). Im gonna try and see them at Reading. So happy Billys not making his bleepy bloopy crap again.

I loved Smashing Pumpkins when I was younger but cutting to 5+ years later and trying to bring back the same sound just doesn't really do it for me. I'll still listen to it but I don't think I'd go to any shows or be as excited as most people are. I mean... it's kind of hard to get behind a sound that had deep nihilistic and apathetic roots to begin with but after watching the break-up, the failed (-ish) projects post-SP, and the weird reunion just doesn't garner as much anticipation as one would think.

I used to listen to the Pumpkins ALL the time. They were my absolute favourite band of all time. Do I have the same excitement for the new album that I would have had 7 years ago? No, but I do have the same excitement at the prospect that I may finally be able to see some iteration of the band live. I started liking them after they left Australia during the Mellon Collie tour. They never came back to Perth. 2 of my friends flew to Melbourne to see them during the Adore tour but I couldn't afford to go. Now with the Pumpkins back together I may be able to see them - Rage Against The Machine COULD tour here, there are rumours floating around about a Big Day Out appearance next year.
If they come to Australia (Pumpkins or Rage) but not Perth, I will definitely be flying over east to see them. I still love their music and seeing them live would fulfill a dream I never got to live (how overly dramatic and poetic!?). |
