There are points in this episode - just like there are in her KATG appearances - that I find Lauren's openness about battling demons genuinely quite moving.
I liked Mariah MacCarthy too, but what made her intriguing was almost the opposite of why Lauren's so good to listen to. Whereas Lauren's talking about a fight she struggles with Mariah comes across as very centred and assured and I thought her attitude to both the subject and her own art made her very compelling. To be honest, maybe one of the two brilliant singers in the room could have helped her out and sung the hook melody to her rap but the lyrics were a lot of fun and balls to her for being fearless about performing it. I really hope I get to hear more from both of these guests in the future. So really nice job right out of the blocks Chemda, I'm stoked you're branching out on this second podcast project and I hope it turns out as fun and fulfilling as you dream it will. |

One question, Lauren talks about going to Al-Anon and it's her "free therapy". Is there any alcoholism in her family or is she just working out other shit while she's there? If it's the latter, don't the other people in the session find it odd that she's there?

Only just got VIP so I have only heard this episode, really liked it. Being able to focus on one topic for an extended amount of time while hitting all the good questions makes for really interesting listening. Can't wait to hear the rest of them.

I thought it was interesting that at one point -- I don't remember exactly how it was said- but I think Chemda asked Mariah if she's encountered that problem before- if the boyfriends/girlfriends of actors in her shows ever have issues with sexual or romantic things happening on stage- and when I heard that asked I expected Mariah's answer to be like "of course not" because I've always felt that people generally know that if its in a show its not real and if its not real who gives a shit - but I'm pretty sure Mariah said she HAS had issues just not anything too serious or too frequent- or something along those lines. Which I found surprising. So I guess its one of those things where people claim they're fine with it because they know they should be, but not everyone is.
