I think there's more happening than in Sopranos, and that was good. Plus there was Stringer.

The Wire is easily one of the best television series in history. In my top 3.

It's not as immediately accessible to people as other series because it doesn't pander to its audience and waste time explaining shit to you. You're supposed to figure out what's going on yourself.

the complaint i heard most is that the first episode is slow and goes nowhere. and people dont stick to things anymore, since theres so many other stuff to watch.

the other show simon did, "Treme", is another one i love and its even more weirdly paced.

Homicide was great, too, although they had a terrible experience dealing with the studio, who wanted more car chases and bullshit.

I had to watch the first episode of The Wire twice before I got into the groove but once I was there, I was totally hooked for the entire series. I think season two is my favorite, closely tied with season three.

weirdly enough, i read his book "Homicide - a year in the streets" before watching the wire, so seeing so many real people depicted in fiction was extra weird.

I didn't really get into Homicide. Maybe I'll give it another try since I've ran out of shit to watch.

Jesse started as a messed up slacker, than he met one of the most evil main characters ive ever seen in fiction and saw it destroy evgeything around him.

Walt was never a good man, even in flashbacks he gave the vibe of a cocky piece of shit that knows he can justify anything to himself cause hes intelligent.

And at some point in the series he turned from a man pushed into darkness, to a sociopath who as jesse pointed out in a line (comparing himto gus) "if he doesnt kill you, he makes you wish you were dead".

Seriously the whole series is hard to like, its slow and crawly but it still has better ideas, better dialogue, better acting (by ALL the cast members), and better visuals than anything else on tv or in movies.

i can see how people could find it boring, sometimes, it is and a lot. but it's still my favourite piece of fiction ever in any format.
I'm 2 episodes into Season 4 and the 3rd hasn't finished dling yet. I don't think Walt is a sociopath, I think he's what a standard science nerd would be like if they were to get into some illegal business. Try to be calculating, but at the same time naive from lack of experience. Walter still has his brother-in-law to take care of, and now he's stuck in the deal so he can't just quit because he no longer has cancer.

Jesse is the biggest shithead in the show, he destroys his life and fucks shit up for everyone else. He's weak and pathetic, and he only has emotions because he'd just roll over and die at the first opportunity. And I don't think that line was comparing Walt to Gus.

I see it as the story of a man who because of his intelligence always thought he was entitled to great things. He saw his peers go on to become millionaires, while he was left teaching high school chemistry. He told himself that he was ok with it but really he was just living life as a pussy. The cancer is just the vehicle that the writers chose to push Walt into this situation, after which it really doesn't add much to the story which is why they had him go into remission. Going into the drug world gave Walt something he'd never had before, power and he realized how much he always wanted it. This is the turning point of the story, he's now doing it for himself and not his family. In the end of season 3 he realizes that he's in way over his head and is no longer looking for power but rather survival as his opponent is as intelligent and calculating as himself but far more ruthless.

and yea with the exception of the first episode this season has been what keith would label as "boring" but not any more "boring" than the first episodes of the past 3 seasons which keith somehow managed to get through
