Hamas, being scumbags, is not afraid to hide behind Palestinian civilians. When Israel fires their warning shot civilians aren't in a position to evacuate, Jon Stewart brought up that there was no place to flee, we're talking about one of the most densely populated places on Earth. I think the impulse and sentiment behind the hashtags and facebook posts is empathy for the situation of the Palestinian civilians are in.

Looking at the death toll there is a staggering difference between the civilian death tolls: the tens Hamas is killing and thousands IDF is killing. Hamas given the opportunity would kill many more (if not all) but there not in a position to do so. So it's left to Israel to show restraint. Or at least America to not support them, because America is supposed to be make those calls and say, "this is not proportional and we're better than that." I know that's what I'm looking for.

Try again how? Are you claiming the Rome statute on proportionality isn't the standard for international law? That statute governs proportionality with respect to intentionality and military purpose.

Israel's strikes don't directly target civilians, and their military purpose is to end the actions of terrorists who admittedly want to kill as many Israeli civilians as possible. I just pulled the words of one lawyer succinctly explaining the law. His personal merits and failings are irrelevant, because the statute still stands.

Try again, amateur international jurist.
