Benifits of Sucession
1. Make your own laws.
Gays want the right to marry - Done Marijuana decriminalized - Done 2. Set your own taxes. First 15 minutes you are debt free Bad Stuff Have to create military from scratch Might not have enough doctors to go around May not be recognized by other countries as a country (Could go either way) |

Let's make Puerto Rico a state and then succeed* from Puerto Rico. That way, Puerto Rico takes on all the debt, and the rest of the country is scott free. Puerto Rico becomes the U.S.A., and we become the C.F.K.U.S.A. (Country Formerly Known as the U.S.A.) CFK! USA! is a fun chant, too.

I've talked with a lot of people here in NH about this topic lately. Some of my friends even started a group to prode the discussion forward a bit.
I'm not advocating succeeding, or maintaining the union as it exits today. After all, since there is a process for adding new states, doesn't it seem strange that there shouldn't be a process for allowing states to leave? What about if a state is a constant drain on the rest of the country? Could the other 49 decide to create Arizona Bay and push California off into the Pacific (credit: Bill Hicks)? I do wonder what all of the folks unwilling to consider the possibility do on July 4th ... Do you still send your taxes to the Crown? Now before you answer, please consider this thought: If you feel like the answer was "they had more compelling reasons" or "times were different then", then aren't you saying that under some set of circumstances succession is viable? Wouldn't the time to discuss it be before tempers were red hot and blows were eminent? |

divided we fall, y'all.
all of our history tells us it's a shitty idea. if you want to talk bloodshed in the the context of it being important this year for us to exercise our hard won civili liberties, let's talk about what it took us to stay together the last time and not take a dump on it. |

Well one of the drawbacks is currency. Many countries still use USD as their reserve countries.....but many are switching. Regardless, the value of the jurisdiction is going to be compared by assets, and raw goods. Therefore these states will most likely significantly drop in value unless they have some gold backing. Even in a state rich with oil such as Texas wouldn't survive and theorectically would be poorer than Mexico. The people complaining about starting their own country do not know anything about economics.
