Boardwalk Empire (What did people think?)
There has been a few threads dedicated to event television and I was wondering if anyone check out Boardwalk Empire.
Personally I really enjoyed it. The music and the costumes and everything blew me away, as HBO typically does. Reminded me of why I love Deadwood so much. Somewhat based on some real people and then kicked up to be way more entertaining. Really like miniseries about legendary figures. Apparently I'm not the only one. After seeing some of their highest ratings for a pilot since Deadwood in 2004, HBO has bought a second season after just 1 episode. A lot of the scenes made me want to go watch Gangs of New York which isn't surprising considering Scorsese was involved in the shows creation. If you were into the Sopranos, you'll likely enjoy this show. And you're only one episode late if you haven't seen it yet! Trailer: |

Jeez. Work for HBO do ya? I question Buscemi as a lead, but I like the show as a concept. And so far, so good, though I had some trouble keeping the young hoods and their dames separate.
And all the suggestions of conflict that were insinuated in this show suggested that Buscemi might just be the perfect lead for this show. I guess my only complaint is, I like brunettes getting work, but curl one's hair and not the other. You could just hire blonds, but, meh. So, in answer, I will give it a chance. |

You can tell blondes apart but not brunettes? LOL. I love Buscemi and I'm a history nerd (which sometimes works against me in shows like this if they are really anachronistic). I like the idea of going back to Prohibition for gangster stuff because recent films and television has kind of ignored that era. And dealing with the fact that the corruption ran into the government side of things is another good spin from what we've come to expect. Which one is from Dawson's Creek? I never watched past season two or three of that. |

I liked the pilot a lot. There's a lot of potential laying there. If they do it right it could be up there with The Sopranos, The Wire, and Breaking Bad. |
