File Recovery Programme

I done fucked up. I'm looking for a good (free) file recovery programme, or way (possible?) that I can use to recover a whole mess of photos that were accidentally deleted from my laptop.

I tried using one, but it warped the pictures, re-named them with numbers, and I'm pretty sure re-sized them, too.

This is really important to me, as some of these pictures are irreplaceable.

Any advice/suggestions? All are greatly appreciated!
