Foreign Indie Music

I'm broadening my horizons and i'm looking for really awesome music from foreign countries that may or may not be in english. I've got Manu Chao and Mano Negra covered. Others I can't think of at the moment. Anyone know of really killer music from other parts of the world and how I can obtain it? Muchas Gracias.

If Canada counts it's exploding with greatness. Awesome thread, I'm all for supporting good indie music, and worldwide is fantastic.

hey, I heard you on one of the Uncast episodes talking about differents bands, and I recognized and enjoy a lot of them.
I've been listening to Beirut a lot, and though they sound like they're from Spain i'm pretty sure they're American. The Dodos are also really awesome, and have been listening to them for weeks and weeks. Alas, two American bands. I need international flavor!

Yes! So so good.

Also on the show Jim and I do we've showcased some amazing Canadian bands too.

Check out Finland, not too sure what is actually indie or not, but some incredible symphonic metal over there.

I'm going to get that program to get all this music off of my ipod before it dies on me one day. Would like to trade tunes with you.

Los Campesinos are an indie band from the UK. They put out my favorite album(s) last year.

I absolutely love the Beatsteaks - "Smack Smash" is amazing but the newer album is great as well.

Check out the samples:
Amazon.com: Smack Smash: Beatsteaks: Music
They are Punk/rock but very very upbeat happy - listening to them just puts me in a good mood.

For the few bands that I listen to that actually sing in German a big part in why I like them are the lyrics so I am not sure that would be interesting for you.

Whoo they rule ha ha. Jens Lekman is from Sweden I think, he's okay, I usually listen to bands that sound like they're foreign (Grizzly Bear, Fleet Foxes, Beirut)
