Yeah, I watched it on my DVR (the only good way to watch seventeen hour awards ceremonies) last night and God damn that was beautiful work from Ricky. He was just a fucking wrecking machine, taking swings at everyone right from the get go whether they were in the room or not. Mofo treated it like a G-rated roast.

Even better is that you know he's one of the smartest cookies around and knew exactly what he was doing. This wasn't Russell Brand accidentally upsetting peeps at the VMAs a couple of years ago by stumbling into an insult of the Jonas Brothers, this was more like Sarah Silverman ripping into Paris Hilton right to her face. This was Gervais standing at the podium in front of the sensitive souls of movieland with a rocket powered insult harpoon.

Other highlights of the show, the always awesome Jane Lynch's speech. Other good speeches from Melissa Leo, the gay kid from Glee and Paul "I Ate All The Chocolate" Giamatti. DeNiro did okay too, with the help of some good writers as he acknowledged right up front. Pacino was horrendously boring. Lovely Natalie Portman mentioned how her boyfriend loves sleeping with her straight after she mentioned her parents and they were in the audience on camera. Alec Baldwin hamming it up with J-Lo was great.

Best of all though was Robert Downey Junior's intro for the best actress award. Love that guy.

"Ricky will not be invited back to host the show next year, for sure. For sure any movie he makes he can forget about getting nominated. He humiliated the organization last night and went too far with several celebrities whose representatives have already called to complain."

And I wouldn't have it any other way.

I'm not sure the constant "take the piss" sense of humour is as appreciated in America. I'm sure Gervais took RDJ's backchat in the right spirit and laughed about it rather than getting all butt-hurt like the rest of the princesses in the room. Fuck 'em.

The pretentious circle jerkers in the audience needed (desperately needed) a good jabbing. Fuck 'em for being overly sensitive about it.

i loved it. i think this is the best positive press any awards have gotten in years. with all the negative press about bribes and corruption Gervais just lit it up and was really fucking funny, the funniest (main stream) awards show that ive ever seen
