iTouch Wi-Fi help

I received an iPod Touch for christmas this year but I can't get the wi-fi to work.
I put in the correct password, and I get a little check mark next to my network and the wi-fi icon comes on but when I try to access Safari it says 'cannot connect to the internet'

Anyone know what I can do? I appreciate any help.

This has happened to me more than a few times. Try restarting the iPod touch first (sleep and home button at the same time until that little red slider shows up). If that doesn't work it's likely the network and not the iPod.

The fix is easy. Look it up on Apple's website.

Happened to my daughter's. Took longer to find the fix than to fix it.

I'm guessing you have the security settings right WEP vs WPA vs WPA2

Try this article:

iPhone and iPod touch: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

I believe the fix is to reset your network settings (it will delete them and you'll need to re-add them) and then reboot. Worked on my daughter's iTouch.

Quote:
If you are still unable to join a Wi-Fi network, or are unable to access the Internet while connected
- Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings, including passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
- Restart the device:
Hold the power button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the power button to turn it back on.

thanks guys, I think it may be the MAC filtering thing, I tried accessing my router online to enter my iTouch wi-fi address but the site won't load, looks like I'll have to call my internet provider tomorrow and get talked down to like a child by some IT guy, lovely.

Thanks for all your help though it's got me on the right track I think

If MAC filtering is at play I would strongly doubt an ISP did it on Wifi, who set up you wireless Access point, that person may have done it, and tell em to stop real hackers and any script kiddie can clone MAC Addresses. WPA2 with a long (16 characters or more) random passphrase is the way to go.
