NYC recommendations?

Hi!
Longtime lurker here.
Just got back into the country and will be in NYC for the 1st time in 10+ yrs, for the 1st 2 weeks of January.

Anyone have any good comedy venue recommendations ($>$$;way too broke for $$$)?

I've already searched the forums and haven't found anything besides 'search past guests' (done); totally open to going to places with a good reputation on a random night.

I hear UCB and the Comedy Cellar are good bets; yay?nay??

P.S. Any recs for stuff to do in general would be great. I have very little interest in parks or food; care WAY more about off the beaten path shopping (flea markets, NYC-only places with great bags or jewelry) and shows/activities.

I went to UBC and Comedy Cellar last time I visited NYC and had a great time. Would recommend.
