Political correctness gone wrong....? Black face..
Livid Kamahl has had enough | The Daily Telegraph
Would be really interested to hear opinions on this. Personally i dont see the issue.. Im not black or american. I am am though a the first of my family born in australia to polish parents. Grew up being called a wog among other things and I know that in America poles are the but of many jokes... I just think people need to lighten up. I really hope that Harry doesnt truly represent the majority of the american people. Whats everyone elses opinion? Maybe there can be a poll or something not sure how that would work though..

Offensive or politically correct notions are a very odd thing in our society. We have a nasty habit of going from one social group to the next, finding a new one to hate as we absolve the last. It's bad to say shit about whites, but those damned blacks! A hundred years later, it's bad to say shit about blacks, but those damned Mexicans and gays!
Our insensitivity often switches targets, depending on the buzz at the time. |

Thing is, black face has too much social history to be considered funny now. Doesn't matter in what context, the history will always stay with it. |

I think the black face was just shocking. Because of being deemed racist in America no one uses it anymore so Harry was probably just shocked that it was used, not so much that those guys were trying to be the Jacksons or weren't funny.
Even in the best contexts it makes Americans feel uncomfortable. My current favorite TV show, Mad Men, had a black face part a few episodes ago and although it was illustrating that black face was more "acceptable" in the 60s, its been met with some mixed reactions. Harry could have just explained that black face is seen as racist in America even if its not in Australia and then moved on instead of trying to make such a huge point that he's not racist. It was a bit of overkill. Blackface - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |

I think it was on SBS that they had an Aboriginal elder comment on it. He started with something along the lines of "It was offensive, they were mocking Michael Jackson..." at which point I started laughing and missed the stuff about racism.
