Thinking of getting a new TV...
Thinking of throwing down on a new tv and right now seems like a great time since theres deals coming out of everyones asshole. The tv I'm looking for is anywhere from 30-50 inches, not sure what to type, LED, LCD, Plasma, or even what brand. Budget is fairly flexible, if I can justify the cost i'll shell out for a more expensive one. If you have opinions throw them out there.

I bought a new TV today. 32 inch Samsung LCD. I've had it functioning for 3 hours now and can't complain.
It cost $470 in Australian dollars. I'll keep you posted on how much I like it over the next 2 to 3 years, yeah? |

I'm planning on getting a new tv soon as well, but my more techy friends told me to wait til (I think) February, cause I guess that's when new models come out, so the older ones become cheaper.
Also in my search I've seen pretty much the same deal as lizsquiz described. |

you've got to narrow down that range some a low end 32 can be a 399 TV and a high end 50 can be 1700 to much wiggle room
go into a store and look at the screens what size do you want 32,37,42,46,50 Once you know that think of where you will put the TV and where you will sit then look @ this EggXpert - TV Size / Viewing Distance Chart does 720P vs 1080P matter is the room well shaded during TV viewing (if yes consider plasma there are some sick deals on 720 P Plasma) if not you want LCD/LED Do you watch sports if no you dont really need 120 or 240 hz screens 60hz will be fine

I'd been looking into maybe a tv around 42" the lighting in the room is average. i saw some great deals on some samsung plasmas but theres also a lot of talk that the samsung plasmas make this loud buzzing noise, dont know loud that buzzing actually is. for LCDs i was thinking of going with 120 1080p, which brands make the best LCDs? also, dont these new LED tvs make the images look very "computery"?

The problem with buying from Costco is that the same brand that's sold in electronic stores, but with one or two minor differences. The model number will even be one or two characters off, like 92134-A vs. 92137-V. So it's hard to comparison shop and know what you're actually getting. You can't read reviews of their models that are accurate. That kind of thing.

I got a 42" Vizio last year that is perfect. Made in USA. I got the eco (energy saving) model, tons of imputs (3 HD, svideo, a few rca, and more), beautiful screen, and the speakers aren't bad for built in (I still have the audio outputs hooked up to the surround sound as well).
I think they're about $500 now. I paid 640 last year, worth every penny. The 360 looks amazing in HD on this tv, as well as porn and other movies. Best Christmas present I've ever bought. |

If power consumption matters to you, plasmas suck more power than an LCD. I've had a 50" Pioneer plasma for a few years now and I love the thing. While it probably doesn't matter a whole lot, get 1080p instead of a 720p unit. Might as well get as many lines as you can now. As far as a '3D' TV goes, I have zero frame of reference since I have not seen one in action but frankly the idea of having to sit at home with the glasses on does not appeal to me.
