Who watches the Jersey Shore ironically? I watch it because it's a good show. I like Seinfeld, but I neither watch it ironically nor because I glorify their lifestyle. I just watch it because it's a fucking awesome show.

I think if the show is such a huge success, then The Situation deserves $60k per episode, because he's basically the keystone figure of the show. Whether unwittingly or not, he turns Jersey Shore into a sitcom. He has the perfect mix of arrogance and likability for a show about jerkoffs, and I don't think the show would be successful without him. Other characters definitely help (Pauly D, Snookie, JWoww are all important to the show), but I think The Situation is the catalyst that ultimately defines Jersey Shore.

Hate to be the lesbian crying homophobia -but Keith didn't want to have lunch with that guy because he sounds faggy. So Keith is fine with gay guys as long as they act a certain way around him. That's homophobia. And his theme song is about fucking in the ass? So what? If someone read your show titles and judged you from that, it wouldn't be a true indication of your personalities necessarily.

Saying that, i don't actually care, but i do think the other guy has every right to find that insulting and to send a big fuck you in response.

So if some white guy dressed like a thug and carried around a huge boombox, and I was embarrassed to be seen around him, but he also happened to be gay, would that make me a homophobe? Or is Keith's embarrassment homophobic because the extreme flamboyance is directly linked to gay culture? I disagree. Just like you can dislike certain aspects of nerd culture and not be anti-intellectual, I think you can dislike certain aspects of gay culture and not be homophobic. But, I'm not gay so I'm not sensitive to the issues.

Haven't had a chance to listen yet, but it sounds to me like Keith doesn't like the way somebody acts, not their sexual preference. If a straight guy acted faggy, he likely still wouldn't have lunch with him -because of the way he acts, not his preference.

But i presume the guy is acting that way because he's gay. that's generally the way it goes. So Keith just has a problem with a person being themselves, if that means they are flamboyant. That sounds pretty homophobic.

Like i said, i don't really care enough to get involved in a long-running argument - i can just see it from the other guys perspective, and i understand why he wouldn't want anything to do with Keith. It's still a personal insult, even if it's not homophobic.

Also, just want to point out that even though i think what Keith did/is saying is in this instance is homophobic, i don't actually believe that Keith is in general. I think he's actually pretty progressive in that regard, especially compared with other macho men men his age/background.

You can dislike someone for being themselves, sure.

Which I was going to edit, but figure I'd leave for later. The guy can obviously be offended for Keith not accepting him (and obviously he should take it personally...because it's his personality Keith dislikes). But that doesn't make Keith a homophobe, just a person who doesn't like to be around flamboyant men.

If you call disliking any aspect of a gay person "homophobia", then the term gets really diluted to not be very meaningful. Reserve it for parents who disown their gay kids, opponents of gay marriage, and all the other terrible genuinely homophobic things people feel.

Really, you watch Jersey Shore cause you enjoy their sense of humor so much and love having an intricate look into their lifestyle? No you watch it because they are awfull horrendous ridiculous people that are enjoyable to watch as a train wreck, you're watching it ironically.

It's not only a hipster thing, the entire mainstream entertainment these days is about irony, and people aren't even recognizing it.

I never perceived Keith's dislike of flamboyant homosexuals as homophobia.

I know gay people who do not like extremely flamboyant homosexuals, does that make them homophobes. And to make things fair, since we're only talking about gay males, there's a bunch of lesbian femnales who dislike the "bull dyke" acting lesbians that enforce the stereotypes.

A lot of black people dont like othger black people who push black stereotypes, does that make them racist?

I think the main point for me is that whenever a homosexual acts openly flamboyant and provocative towards me (and this happens when i clear up that i'm straight, generally) i feel like some act like that to test me/provoke me feeling free to solicit no reaction from my part, since if i react, i'm automatically a homophobe. If any racial person (and i include obnoxious guidos too) started harassing me and i reacted, lots of thgem would use the race card. And that's cowardly.
