This show was so insane! Lauren did his homework and homework has never been so funny.

The pairing of Lauren and Emmy is unmatched! Love it!

Caviar is fish eggs but not all fish eggs are caviar only the ones from certain types of fish and that's why it's still expensive and hard to get because in most methods of "harvesting" it you are killing the fish

Everything else is some type of fake caviar that is from cheaper fish or even vegetables and has been colored so of course it tasted not really that interesting. I did try real caviar and it tastes nice but yeah not worth that much money.

LOVE this episode : )

I'm half chinese and my aunts used to eat bird's nest soup (the "nest" is actually bird saliva). It's apparently good for your skin, so obviously worth the $500 - $1000 people pay for some. Oh, and the way they get the nests is not only dangerous for the birds, which are an endangered species, but also for the people harvesting them ... from cliffs.

also, I can attest to durian smelling like literal death ... "rotting flesh" seems like the most accurate description to me. BLECH. never got myself to try any, but my aunts and uncles are allll about it.

keep it up, emmy and lauren! one of my favorite spin-offs : )

Great episode!

How caviar is made: How It's Made - Farmed Caviar - YouTube So weird....

I've always wanted to try fugu though. I know some people who've eaten it and apparently the "safe" cuts of the fish carry a trace of tetrodotoxin which makes your tongue tingle. I also heard that in the aftermath of WWII, a lot of Japanese people were dying from eating poorly prepared fugu, so General MacArthur created a law requiring training and certification for all fugu chefs.

I loved your things about lobsters. Fun fact for a really really LONG time that is what prisoners got served for meals here in Boston and the like. Very funny when you think about it.

Ok so Chemda took me to the VERY fancy Russian Tea Room for my birthday. Half the menu was on this list. AND-just for my listeners (and my own curiosity) I ordered mousse with 24-karat gold flakes and caviar. It was...I'm trying to find a reason why it makes sense. I can't. I just can't. Chemda was right when the waiter asked her how it tastes and she replied, "It tastes like rude human beings."
Chocolate+Fish eggs+Metallic chemical element = FANCYYYYYY
It was sweet, a little salty and of course a little fishy.
The restaurant also had a few other items we talked about on this list: fois gras, veal...I only wish I included 24-karat gold!
Our dinners were incredible. The atmosphere was wonderful and gaudy and hilariously Russian. I was so excited to be there and it was such a fun surprise. We had a great time!
