Being Mortal by Atul Gawanda (probably spelled wrong) is an excellent book about the importance of quality of life versus quantity. He was a surgeon and speaks about his experiences with people and expectations with medical treatment versus reality.

And as someone who works in geriatrics with people with complex medical problems, suicide should be allowed in certain circumstances. Especially with pancreatic cancer, ALS-these are horrific. I can’t agree with one in everyone’s house though-it should be to end someone’s suffering where there are no other options to relieve that suffering.

Not for the diseases that are proven to not have a cure and are extremely painful such as ALS and pancreatic cancer. They wouldn’t have to wait the year.

One of the reasons I relocated had to do with everything in my city reminding me of my dad after he died. I couldn’t look at the plants around me, because my dad was a botanist and drilled and lectured the plant life of that state into us. The plants/climate here is so different, I couldn’t tell you what the hell I’m looking at. I couldn’t even look at the skyline w/o being reminded of him, bc of his idea of a good time being finding a high point to overlook the city. Totally different view/skyline where I am now.

A big part of healing is time and being able to forget.

The immediacy of a suicide button is the worst.

I think if such a button existed, most of us would have pushed it in otherwise fleeting moments of pain/anger/sadness to say nothing of folks suffering from suicidal ideation and depression.

Oh there’d be a lot of picketing over this button. It wasn’t easy to get it passed.

I wouldn’t be so sure! People are moving differently. Something’s in the air!
