The idea of the Charakter letters to the judge saying that someone is a good guy is insane to me.
My point is always, most murderers don’t murder all the people around them or even try to!
But if they murder one or two, they are still murderers!
And that’s not good!

Same with rape. When you say “ he was nice to me and didn’t rape me!”, I’m glad for you. But it doesn’t say anything more really. But celebrity is somehow magic and might somehow influence the judge. How is this legal?

I think the "horror" cooking thing Chemda referenced was the film "The Menu" which was getting buzz around the same time as "The Bear".

The Menu is dark and tense but not a straight up horror. I thought it was brilliant and gets into the culture of pretentious obsessions with food.

The Bear is genuinely great though. Let it rippppp.

We started watching „ the bear“ but it was way too stressful for me.
The tension! No thanks. When I watch something to relax it need to be funny or Star track. ( or both)

The Ashton and Mila statements were pre-sentencing statements. So at that point, Masterson has already been found guilty and now the judge is taking statements from defenders and victims to impact their sentencing judgement. Meaning at that point, those two should have already known that Masterson was found guilty and they were just trying to influence how long of a sentence he got. So apologies afterwards are complete bullshit and nothing more than to save face for them.

The point of victim/defense statements is because a certain crime has a range of possible penalties. So the community gets a chance to influence the judge as to how severe the penalty should be for a crime for a certain individual.

I don’t think we have it here.
And I think it’s good! Having celebrities as friends seems to me like an unfair advantage.

Also we don’t have jury duty here. And I really like that!
For me it sounds like complete madness. Some idiot who doesnt want to be there anyway should decide about someone’s future? I’ve seen people. I like that we don’t trust them here so much.

We have the option for a bench trial. Which means the defendant forgoes the option of a jury of their peers. And instead the fact finding responsibilities fall onto the judge. It’s a gamble as to which is better. Most people think that their defense attorney can confuse the normal public jury about the facts and get themselves a favorable ruling. Whereas others think that a “by the book” evaluation from a judge would be more fair to them. It’s a tough decision, because judges are like doctors. Just because you have the title of judge or doctor doesn’t necessarily mean you are competent. You just managed to get yourself into that title somehow. Either through connections or actual skill. But who knows which one when you get randomly assigned a judge.

I trust the Justice system in Germany way more, even if it’s of course not perfect, it seems less insane by far.
It’s boring as it should be. Also video recording of trials is also prohibited.
